Yesterday I spent a beautiful sunny day shopping in the fabric district. Now I’m not going to lie the fabric district is not in the nicest part of NYC. You have Port Authority, Times Square and Penn Station all sort of surrounding you so it can get really packed with tourists, but it is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Pure fabric heaven. Their tag line is, “ Possibly the best fabrics in the world” and I must agree.
I made sure I snapped many pictures with my iphone so that you could all feel like you were there with me.
Take a look around:
Can you tell which fabric caught my eye in this picture?
Loved this navy blue and white chain link.
Ah this just made me happy! All those bright colors.
Patterned bolts of fabric. The whole store was so nice and organized.
You know me and my love for brown & white. This totally caught my eye and it was only $15.95 a yard.
Polka dots will always be a classic to me. So I was happy to see oh so many lined up.
Now the majority of the shops in the fabric district house fabric for garments. There is very little in the world of upholstery. I’ve yet to find a gem that has remnant of Kravet’s and F. Schumacher that I can dig through.
B & J is mostly fashion, but they do have a nice sized collection of cottons in prints and solids that could be used for pillows and window treatments and they all seemed to be around $10-$30 a yard so it’s not that crazy for a nice, clean and organized shop!
there's a great upholstery fabric shop just off from all the others. i'll be wandering around soon & will let you know exactly where it is. thanks for the pretty photos! need to go asap.
Looks nice! Any recommendations for a shop with more basic cottons? I'm a craft sewer and mostly make bags and such. I found that the garment district had only fashion fabrics, as one might expect.
I live in Dallas. We have soo many fabric houses to choose from here. It takes days just to go through them. I always enjoy finding just the right shop.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
Great fabrics! I so wish we had a fabric store like that around here.

If I was in there I would not come out. I would just hide when they closed! I love fabric.
