  1. People are SO CLEVER – love this!

  2. Lauren says:

I love your Ikea Hack, very classy! Here is my hack with the same nightstand. http://livingthelivewire.blogspot.com/2011/01/ikea-hack-follow-up.html

    • effortless says:

Thanks Lauren off to check yours out. Allison did the hack though not me. Totally wish I had thought of it.

      • Lauren says:

Thanks for checking mine out and I realized that it was Allison’s hack after I had hit post and to be honest could not figure out how to edit. Thanks for sharing her hack!

  3. This is so cute! I never have the patience for painter’s tape. I’m impressed as I can imagine that took a long time to lay out the design. Good work!

  4. Ashley says:

Allison, you’re a genius! The “after” looks great!

  5. I’ve been dying to hack a Rasta! Love this idea.

  6. This looks so good- I wanted to do the same pattern on my closet drawers but I totally couldn’t figure out how to do it- the whole tape/reverse pattern confuses me on a more complex pattern like this one. I’m always so impressed with people who can do things like this- fabulous.

  7. So smart! I love seeing ikea pieces revamped too.

  8. I feel like there should be a whole blog devoted to successful Rast hacks. Seriously, it’s such a great canvas for creativity. I’m loving the pillows on Allison’s bed…

  9. carlee says:

    So creative!

    Also, really like the pillows!

  10. I love that you are a wordpresser now. 🙂 Great project to highlight, I love it.

  11. Lori May says:

What an amazing job! Looks fabulous!

  12. Allison says:

    Allison here…
Thanks for all the positive reviews, ladies!
Christine- I had a really hard time with the taping before I made the stencil as well. Not easy.

I actually made the pillows on my bed–they’re really basic. I got the fabric from the home decor section of Joann’s. I can’t find it online, but I think I paid about $10 a yard for it. I made them recently and saw this fabric in the store last week if you’re interested.

  13. Vanessa says:

That turned out adorable! I did a Rast hack myself but it is so boring compared to Allison’s!

  14. Rachael says:

This looks awesome! Thanks for the tip about “sealing” the painter’s tape with the base color – I never would have thought of that, and I’m sure it makes a huge difference!

    • effortless says:

It really helps. I’m also a big fan of frog tape. For me it makes a huge difference and I’ve never looked back since using it a while back. No more blue tape for me.

  15. Charlene says:

That turned out great…love the design!

  16. Heather says:

Fantastic!! i love this…and am using it as inspriation for my bedside tables! Think I will apply the design to the top of them. I’ve posted it to my blog Interior Groupie. Thank you for sharing!

  17. I don?t even understand how I finished up here, but I believed this publish was once great. I don’t recognise who you might be but certainly you are going to a well-known blogger in the event you aren’t already 😉 Cheers!

  18. Priscilla says:

What were your measurements for the stencil? It looks fantastic!

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]

round up of budget friendly bar carts

Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]

For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
