I like to go a bit bold and colorful with fabrics, but I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. For this weeks Pattern Play I decided to go a bit neutral and show how you can mix up fabrics that may look unrelated but relate to a color story.
Let’s pretend that the room we are working is an enclosed patio/sun room.
1. Navy ikat fabric can be used for long panels to cover our windows.
2. I would have two accent chairs covered in this cross hatch fabric. It comes in a great silver/griege colorway and the pattern on it looks like it’s been hand-painted. One of my favorite fabrics. It’s very organic looking and geometric.
3. I would use this outdoor linen for some rectangular toss pillows and use my fabric pick from #4 for a racetrack border on them.
4. For an additional seating area I would have a day bed covered in this velvet fabric. I needed to add some green to play on my greenhouse look. I could have gone lighter, but I love how the emerald velvet looks. It feels a bit more rustic to me.
5. I can’t help myself. I love a dose of floral in a room. Instead of going with something color I went with something a bit tamer. Again it doesn’t match anything else in the space, but it totally goes with the feel of the room.
6. For some additional toss pillows or perhaps a skirted console table for gardening I would use a stripe. For this space it just seems fitting to use a navy/white ticking.
All of the favorites are less than $20 a yard!
Can’t wait to tackle next weeks pick. Any suggestions on a particular fabric or style? Leave me some suggestions in the comments. I’m running out of clever style names.
how about doing a post on working with existing fabrics. i have black and cream toile drapes in my bedroom that i cannot afford to replace and i’d love to see how you would accessorize with those. i have a white slipcovered headboard and black and cream furniture. how about the title being toile confustion. b/c toile really does confuse me.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
love these fabrics together, rustic yet modern – any idea where to get the robert allen ikat if you want to buy less yardage?

I really enjoy seeing unexpected patterns and color combos and hearing about the process of choosing them! Thanks for sharing this!
Love the emerald + navy combo…and all the neutral really keeps it lighter for a sunroom! Great job!
I like the bold you 😉
