Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Monday has once again come way too quickly for me. I want my 3 day weekend back! We were able to get a lot accomplished this weekend.
We made some big progress on the shed:
{ I think we will be finished with this coming weekend! }
We also got a coat of paint on the hamper:
And played around with some trim:
I had the bright idea of finishing up the hamper with a chippendale style pattern:
Let’s just say Jon wasn’t too thrilled with the idea, but he was able to figure out the math details on the pattern in a couple of minutes and off we went to Home Depot to pick up some trim. Can’t wait for it to be finished! This is another project that will get wrapped up next weekend.
We also got some quotes on getting a patio done in the backyard. We have been going back and forth between a TREX deck or a paver patio, stamped concrete patio or stained concrete patio. After pricing everything out it seems like for us the best option is to do the acid stain concrete.
Have you ever done anything in your home in acid stain:
The acid stain comes in a variety of colors:
We are leaning towards doing the patio in lead and then having a paver border around it. The acid stain reacts differently to the levels of lime in the concrete and in doing so it gives you a sort of marbleized look. We think we may outsource the actual framing of the patio and pouring of the concrete and then go with the DIY route with the acid stain. Hoping to get this done before the end of June.
While we were busy working outdoors there was activity going on in a birds nest that we found on our property:
Two little babies hatched and we are waiting on two more. So cute!
Sunday we took things easy and headed to the beach. Jon has a beach permit for fishing so we are able to drive the truck right up on the sand and very close to the water. It’s wonderful!
I spent my day chatting with my sisters, parents and in-laws and Jon fished the day and finally had victory at the close of the day!
Whew! I’m tired just recapping the day. Hope you all day a lovely weekend as well!
I love productive weekends. Can the acid stain be done on existing concrete? We are in desperate need of fixing our back patio, but I don’t want to spend too much right now. This could be a good alternative.
I’m pretty sure it can be done on an existing concrete patio. I’ve been searching it for a little bit now and it looks like it is done. It seems pretty simple. Can’t wait to try it out on my own. Don’t worry I will share my results.
My BFF re-did her interior floors with acid stain – removing the large, ugly mexican style tiles herself, then having it professionally done. She chose the Rust and it looks like someone poured a yummy cup of espresso all over her floor. It looks amazing!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
