Little details

For months this bench has been on my mind:

{Design by Sarah Richardson for the Toronto Interior Design Showhouse}

I re-upholster items all the time for clients and my own personal home, but I had never thought of doing an accent fabric on the sides of piece. That chevron border in the image above totally stuck with me and when I decided to recover my bedroom bench I went a little stripe happy.

It originally looked this this:

The dogs loving sleeping on it and the beige sort of went a bit brown due to their paws so for the new look I decided to go dark in the hopes that it would last a bit longer.

Here is the new look:

{ I went with a yummy navy velvet and then asked my seamstress to take my stripes and place them on a diagonal.}

{I even went with a striped piping! My seamstress thought I was a bit out there when I asked for it, but then told me she loved it when it was finished.}

I love it. Now it fits right at home with the main fabric in the room:

{Hot House Flowers in Spark by Celerie Kemble for Schumacher}

So happy I took into account the little details. What about yourself?

  17. Sara says:

    Fab! Did you use a vertical stripe on the bias to achieve the diagonal look? If so, can you source that green/white striped fabric?

    • effortless says:

      It was a plain striped fabric that was cute on the bias. I purchased it at the Duralee outlet. I don’t have a pattern name for it. Sorry.

    Love it. Can you share the name of your seamstress. INVU just went bankrupt, and I have some amazing fabric that I would like panels and some romans made from.

    Thanks.
