I have so many blog friends in the Birmingham, Alabama area that at least once a month I tell Jon we need to move there. Ah, one day. Today’s featured lady is one of my pals from Birmingham, Laurel-Dawn from
Abode Love. Laurel-Dawn lives the best of both worlds. She is a talented graphic designer and a decorator on the side. What a perfect marriage. As a blogger I’m so frustrated that I don’t know the in’s and out’s of graphic design, but I’m trying to learn little by little. Laurel-Dawn has a great day to share with us that includes meeting a design blog idol! So sit back, relax and check out a day in her life.

Hello everyone, my name is Laurel-Dawn and I’m the blogger behind Abode Love. When Camila asked me to be part of the “In Her Shoes” series I was excited and a little nervous about everyone seeing my oh-so-glamorous lifestyle (ha!) Here is a little sneak peek into my life as a blogger / graphic designer / interior obsessed lady!

7:30am: at work. Yep, that’s right, I have a 9 to 5 like most people! I am a graphic designer from 7:30 am – 4 pm. So this is me, in my shoes (my favorite fall steve madden boots that I snagged at TJ Maxx a few years ago).
7:45 am: Publish my blog post written the night before @ abodelove.blogspot.com, come stop by!
10:30 am: Mid morning break, walked out to the warehouse to check on Chris Kulow, my master carpenter for all of the custom furniture designed for Muse salon (my latest interior design project)
Check out that 120 year old wood! This piece is gorgeous- it’s the color station. This is where people will sit while they’re getting their hair colored.
This beast of a piece is for product display- it still needs to be stained/painted… but it’s well on it’s way. I love those Rejuvenation library sconces….
12:00 pm: lunch with coworkers at Baha Burger. I got a hot dog, it was delish!
2:30 pm: back at the office, checking out Katie Beth’s iTunes for our next jam. We frequently listen to Mumford&Sons, Florence & the Machine, and in this photo, we were listening to the Country Strong album.
3:00 pm: M&M break. I need chocolate to pull me through the remaining hour of my day at the office!
4:30 pm: Done with work! Headed over to Muse to check out the installation of the first custom made piece as well as the shampoo chairs.
5:30 pm: Happy Hour at Cocina Superior with friends from work, waiting for the Design*Sponge book signing to begin! I’m always up for a margartia… I am a mexican food FREAK.
6:30 pm: I have my Design*Sponge book in hand, and am SO ready to meet Grace Bonney!
there she is!
6:45 pm: Getting my book signed! I was such a dork, I said nothing of substance… I just nodded and smiled a lot… classic.
our group!
Me and Grace Bonney!
10:00 pm: at home with Lady wearing my nasty sweater boots… watching my recorded Glee episode.
King by my side offering me his duck.
My life is usually full of work, design and blogging with a touch of spending time with Mister Husband and the pups… this day was special because I got to go out with friends and go to a book signing (which is NOT the norm for me!) But recording my day has been a blast! Thanks again Camila for featuring me on your fun and super inspiring blog! Have a great day abode lovers!

ON THE BLOG
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
