I’m so happy to be guest blogging today at Effortless Style. When Camila asked me to feature a part of my home that shows my effortless style, I thought immediately of my office. I’m a graphic designer and I work from home; I’m obsessed with color and dramatic statement-making pieces. Color is definitely effortless to me; it’s a natural extension of who I am and luckily I married a man who loves it as much as I do. Upstairs in my office, the walls are painted a crisp cool blue. I like pink, but I didn’t want it to be like, HELLO PINK AND I’M A GIRL AND I LOOOOOOVE PINK! It’s been a good challenge to me to see how I can incorporate various shades of it and I adore the way it pops against that grey-blue.
The problem with the office was that there were all these bare walls that were, frankly, booooring. And I haven’t felt super excited about spending a whole lot of money on artwork for the office right now. There’s too many other projects that are jockeying for my time. When I found these 30mm rolls of washi tape, the lightbulb went on and I started imagining all the fun ways I could design with tape. Low cost and low commitment. That’s my kind of decorating!
Plus some additional peeks of my office:
For this project, I purchased 2 rolls in each of the colors I was considering. Go ahead & buy extra – that way you won’t feel bad if you have an error and need to redo a portion. I also used scissors, a pencil, and a small ruler. You might find it helpful to use a laser level if you have one to keep your lines even, depending on the type of design you go with. I personally like to eyeball things. You know, with my laser eyeballs. Because that’s how I roll. Also, the best thing about washi tape is that if you make a mistake, you simply pull it up and reapply. It was almost too easy. Plus, it’s gentle enough that it didn’t hurt my walls – a definite plus!
All in all, this project took me a grand total of 30 minutes. Now that’s what I call effortless.
Thanks again to Camila for including me!

How do you inject a bit of color into your home?

What a gorgeous room. Wow! And I love that she used washi tape to decorate the walls — very awesome concept. I am impressed! Thanks for sharing with us.
We love your use of color. And we especially love the lacquer boxes.
Love all her color and her etsy shop! I feel so silly, but I didn’t even think of the container store for lacquer boxes…you’re brilliant!
One of the reasons I love your blog is because of your boldness in using lots of color and pattern. I adore tons of color. In my house, I’m pretty obsessed with colorful throw pillows (what decorator isn’t??) and textiles in general. My base furniture pieces are all neutral, but I love color in window treatments, rugs, using table runners on accent pieces like console tables and bar carts, etc. I’m also currently obsessed with chunky, bold, colorful lamps. I have a giant vintage green one in my family room that my husband and friends thought was way over the top, but now agree is perfect
.
Thanks for all the kind words, girls!
xoxo!
