Mexican Blankets used as anything but…

  1. Wendy says:

The bench Jamie did is amazing! I love the idea of using unexpected textiles in refreshing ways.

  2. Totally agree. It is on my wish list.

  3. I love the use of ethnic color schemes and patterns. That last photo is truly stunning!

  4. Thank you for sharing this! A friend bought me a traditional blanket during a trip to Guatemala, and I haven’t found a great spot for it yet It’s nice to see other uses for it. Love the chair cushion idea.

  5. Laura Y says:

I love those dining rooms chairs! That is sheer genius!

  6. Maria says:

Lovely pictures. A tip, which should help anyone searching for these, is that these pictures are blankets. Serapes are a type of shawl. They are also gorgeous, but would be better suited to covering pillows as they are smaller.

By the way, http://www.maggiegalton.com/ has beautiful modern takes on traditional Mexican textiles, while also supporting the artisans who make them. I’m not associated with her; am just a resident of Mexico.

  7. I just used one on my daughter’s bed. http://lauriejoneshome.com/2013/09/11/bright-colorful-bedroom/ You can also find them on Ebay for great prices and they are extra big! I love this look!

  8. Joi says:

Love the look! I think the correct spelling is “serape” though!

  9. Kay says:

I wasn’t always a big fan of Mexican prints but it’s seems that more and more designers are using it in their new collections now. My favourite is the upholstered bench from the first photo. I’ve been looking for some bench or armchair for hallway in mycondo apartment. Hugs, Kay

  10. Love these! Thanks for the source.

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]

Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]

For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
