Hello there, I’m Marissa from ROOST. I’m excited to bring you along for a typical day in my shoes!
Today I’m wearing my trademark gold ballet flats, they go with everything.

8 a.m.
Before I put on the pretty shoes, I usually start my with exercise, errands and chores. Today it’s the recycling center and the grocery store. I’ll spare you the boring parts, but I found the first giant magnolia blossom of the year on my jog!

10:30 a.m.
After chores, I collapse sit down to spend the rest of the morning doing business stuff, paying bills, doing emails, reading blogs, writing posts, and doing some online sourcing for virtual design clients. And I usually end up getting lost in the awesome depths of Pinterest.

 1 p.m.
My husband is in grad school (he graduates this weekend!), so he’s free after lunch to go for a quick drive in the country. We do this as much as possible, Virginia is amazingly green.

2 p.m.
After the drive, it’s back to work. Today I’m off to the fabric store: partly to check on some fabrics before recommending them to clients, and partly to see what’s new because I love this place. I resisted the urge to skip up and down the aisles and run my hands all over the fabrics.

6 p.m.

I usually spend the rest of afternoon finishing up whatever work I didn’t do in the morning, then make dinner. But today my husband was awesome and decided to take me on a date to our favorite BBQ place. It was so good, I forgot I was supposed to be taking pictures!

I think that everything but that sofa would actually work pretty great in a room together. All of the items featured above are all currently up for auction and nothing is over $200. Ah someone please snatch them up and then invite me over.

I love the mix of gray, griege, gold and green. It’s neutral yet exciting and I bow down to designer Allison Hennessy.

Now instead of doing an exact look for less I used the image as a inspiration point and picked out some items that would help give you a similar looking vibe.

Back in Feb I had found a way to get poster size grid layout of instagram photos. Two weeks ago I went online to Prinstagram and inputted my instagram username and password. In doing that all of my instagram pictures were now on the site so I got to pick and choose from my favorites. They then show you a mock up, but let you know that you can’t pick the arrangement of the pictures and that some might be omitted depending on how many images you picked for the 20 x 40 poster.

It does take a little time for them to mail. I was a bit stressed that it wasn’t going to arrive on time, but their customer service department was really great and my prints arrived on Saturday.

A 20 x 40 is not a standard frame size and typically needs to be a custom order. I knew exactly where to pick up a custom frame on a budget. I love Wholesale Poster Frames! I used them when I needed super-sized frames for wallpapered panels in a client’s home and they were a dream to work with.

Now you can fit up to 400 pictures in the 20 x 40 poster, but I wanted the images to be on the large size so I went with 50 of my favorite photos.

I can’t wait to see where both mom’s decide to hang them!

*With Wholesale Poster Frames  they offer acrylic lens to use instead of glass. They are available with U/V anti glare protection or plain. I went with the U/V anti glare, which is why my version is a teeny bit opaque and not as crystal clear as the plain option.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend! We had a weekend full of celebrations. I turned 31 at the end of the week and got to enjoy some beautiful peonies that Jon and Hudson got for me.

So excited to share my birthday gift, but it’s not ready yet. I’m having some new nightstands designed for our bedroom. Surprising to probably no one is that they are going to be orange!

I think all of my family knows me a little too well, because I was gifted two of these handbags for my birthday:

{Now that I’m on WW all I want to do is eat cake for breakfast, but I don’t and this week I lost another 1.2 pounds of the baby weight! }

On Sunday I had the lovely treat of celebrating my 1st Mother’s day! Last year on Mother’s day we were telling our family about our impending new addition and this year I woke up to this:

My sister in London sent me lovely flowers in celebration of my first’s Mother’s day, which promptly went into the owl vase birthday day gift she sent me.

My parents gifted me a sweet picture of me with my parents when I was a baby and a request to take a similar picture with Hudson. Sort of similar to the pictures they take at Young Me, Now Me.

My sister gifted one of my favorite things from the weekend! A nameplate necklace with my sweet little man’s name!

Jon’s family also know the way to a lady’s heart and arrived with flowers and chocolates in head for my first Mother’s day! Everyone really went above and beyond for my 1st Mother’s day and it was awfully sweet.

The sweetest gift had to be this though:

{That section of black paint is Hudson’s little hand print. He wouldn’t open his hand for Jon so it’s his little fist. So cute. }

I was wiped after all of the celebrating! Today though we have a little event to celebrate as well, because my sweet boy turned 5 months!

{Look at that face! He is so sweet. I just want to hit pause with him, because this all going by so fast!}

I am beyond honored and thrilled that Camila asked me to be a part of “In Her Shoes”.  I have read this series for years now and can’t believe I’m now “one of them”!  *squeal*

6:45am- *me smashing the snooze button*

6:55- Pull myself out of bed and head downstairs to make my oldest her breakfast and pack her lunch.  (Im sparing you photos here cuz you know–not pretty)

7:45- Scarfing a bowl of cereal, yelling at the kids-”lets go, your sisters gonna be late!”  Luckily the school is right down the street so we walk over to drop my daughter off.

8:00am- The boys settle in for some TV time (cuz momma has some emails to catch up on- Ok, ok- maybe a little Pinterest too)

8:05am I settle in here with my hot tea and laptop:

9:00am- Rushing to get my make-up on, load fabrics into the car.

9:45am- Leave the boys with the sitter- and head to the upholsterer to drop off fabrics.

Stop by my clients house to re-measure her windows for the custom drapery:

11:30- At West Elm checking out a chair and rug for a client:

12:30- realize Im starving- stop at Starbucks for a Spinach Wrap and Awake Tea Latte  (and totally forgot to snap a pic)

1:00pm-  Run into a local shop to see what’s new for the week (Her stuff is amazing and sells fast-so you gotta check it a lot)

Loving this piece- it would be perfect for a small entry

2:00pm- head back home to get ready to pick my daughter up from school.

3:00pm-6:00pm is run around like a mad woman trying to clean up the house, get kids snacks, help with homework, get kids more snacks (these kids eat a lot), feed the dog, get dinner started, toss in a load of laundry- (that will sit in the washer for two days), check emails, read blogs, get on Pinterest…

7:00-8:30pm Bathe kids, get kids to bed (a feat in itself)

9:00pm- either settle on the sofa with hubby to catch up on DVR shows or back to the laptop to figure out what Im going to post tomorrow or get on Pinterest…again…

10:30pm- Im fried- I can’t stay up late like I use to- so Im off to bed–ok with my phone to look at Pinterest…again…send some half-wit tweets….check email…*zzzzzzzzzz*

Oh wait!  i forgot the most import part!  My Shoes!!  These are my newest faves- they are soooo comfy— Michaels Kors ballet flat.  I got mine at Macey’s and used a 20% coupon! Score!!

I love using a desk/console as a nightstand when I need to multitask in a small space. This little nook features a sunburst mirror, Bungalow 5 console (available thru Effortless Style), striped vanity tray,  a mini pink vase for fresh blooms, and blue and white porcelain stool.

No.2
For the bedding area my favorite part is the greek key nailhead headboard, which reminds me of my favorite headboard from Serena & Lily. I would of course need to complete the look with some pillows from Caitlin Wilson.

No. 3
Whenever I want patterned window panels I typically go the custom route, but I love these ready made gingham panels from Lands End. I love the look of back rod pocket panels so crisp looking and they are only $39 a panel!!! Plus the gingham adds a great classic look to the space and due to it’s small scale it doesn’t distract or compete with any of the other elements.

Finish off the look with classic hotel bedding that is monogrammed.

I love a good monogram and the color orange so this item was an immediate yes for me.

Swoon. It’s looks large enough to hold of all of Hudson’s essentials, my wallet and a paint deck or two.

It’s also available in navy, lemon yellow and green apple with monogramming available in chocolate or gold.

It comes in at $150 so perhaps I’ll have to get someone else to treat me.
