You did what? Graffiti Lamp

So, I haven’t done a You did what? post since Oct, because I wasn’t really feeling that in awe of anything I was seeing. Well yesterday I stumbled upon an image that had a lamp I was certain was high end and to the trade which of course equals $$$$$$. I figured I could recreate the look myself, because there was no way I could afford it. After doing some digging on the original source of the image I was shocked to find out that what I thought was an expensive lamp was actually a DIY project.

Jana Bek who is a contributor for Made by Girl took this lamp:

And turned into this beautiful graffiti lamp:

Amazing! For DIY instructions head here. Don’t have a gourd lamp you can transform? No problem pick one up here here for $45!

Midas touch in your office

I never thought I would ever fall in love with a staple, but I must say that once I spotted this stapler in Design Darlings new arrivals I was smitten. Sadly it’s sold out at the moment, but it inspired me to gather a couple more office supplies that have been dipped in gold.

***It’s back in stock! Yay! Thanks for the heads up Mackenzie!

Slide1

1. Would love a slew of these acrylic clipboards by Russell and Hazel for client project notes.
2. Gold leaf notebooks can be picked up for a steal (3 for $16) or you can easily DIY with a plain notebook.
3. For all of my fabric cutting needs these scissors would make it more glamorous.
4. Part of my design process includes doing some sketches for clients. I think I would get more work done if all of my colored pencils lived in this stylish home.
5. Who doesn’t love a sweet little gold Wilbur?
6. I like using an in and out letter tray box to check clients invoices in order and I’ve never seen anything with a chic gold accent.
7. Ah the stapler that started it out. Such a beauty. Also available here.

Do you have Midas’s touch in your office?

$125 Total Wallcovering Give-Away

With the new year I think we all have a massive list of things we want to accomplish. Of course most people’s goals in the new year are to lose weight and get organized, but I think that the decor obsessed want to tackle design projects in their home.

Today’s give-away can help a bit with that need. Total Wallcovering has been in the business of selling quality wallpaper at a discount for the past thirty years. I think that wallpaper can make a huge impact in a space. When many people decorate then tend to make all of their big furniture pieces solid and neutral. That can lead to a whole bunch of blah at times. Wallpaper would be a great addition to any neutral space to punch it up.

Here are some of my favorite picks from Total WallCoverings:

For a modern geometric shape there is Sidewall:

For a Palm Beach Hollywood Regency vibe there is this bamboo number:
bamboo wallpaper

For a dose of Preppy in your space this dotty number would be great:

polka dot wallpaper

If you prefer texture over pattern then grasscloth is for you:

If you are bit more Boho chic this large scale blockprint is pretty:

If you are still undecided on whether or not you still love chevron or it’s just gotten too trendy for you here is a variation on the traditional chevron:

If you love updated traditional decor I think this brightly colored Toile pattern will make you happy:

There is seriously pages upon pages of pages of paper to pick from.

This give-way is open to US and Canadian residents and will be open for a week It will end on 1/22 midnight EST .

In order to enter to win the $125 gift card please leave a comment and let me know what paper from Total Wallcovering you would get and what room you would put it in.

If you want to stay up to date with Total Wallcovering catch up with them on twitter and google+.

Design Dish: When our favorites hit main stream

I’m sure as an interior decorator I get annoyed and excited about certain things that other people outside of the design field don’t even think about. So, instead of bugging Jon with my rants I decided that we should all chat about things and keep the conversation going.

1st topic on Design Dish is when our favorite design products/trends hit main steam. Case in point back in 2007 I stumbled upon this numbered print from The Keep Calm Gallery now The Calm Gallery.

{Keep Calm & Carry On}

At the time I immediately fell in love with the print. I’ve always had a fascination with all things British and I loved the message of the print. I tend to be a bit high strung at times and can get anxious and stressed out easily. I liked the idea of hanging the print in my house and having a little reminder to just breath and continue on with my day and not stress or get overwhelmed.

It’s been hanging in my house since 2007 and for the longest time any one that walked in my house thought it was so cool, unique, different and of course wanted to know the story behind it.

Then a couple of years ago it hit mainstream and it hit hard. Once I see something I love while walking the aisles of Bed Bath and Beyond I know it’s over. It’s one thing when etsy shops are continuing the trend, but when it’s available at big box retailers everyone and their grandmother know about it. Nothing special about my numbered print straight from London. No one knows I knew it about it before it was on coffee cups, magnets, cell phone cases.

I’ve been toying with taking it down and I threaten to all of the time, but a part of me still loves it so it always stays.

How do you feel when your design favorites hit the main stream? I think it’s great that good design is available for all and at all price points, but I must admit it is a bit sad when it’s everywhere and the special feeling you had about it is gone.

What is your Keep Calm and Carry on? I can’t be the only one who thinks about these things at night. :)

Treat yo self: Take a picture

Due to the holidays I took a little break from the Treat Yo Self series, but now we are back in action.

One of my favorite Christmas gifts this year was a beautiful leather photo album from Under Cover. (Thanks Danay!) Under Cover is a British company that makes amazing leather accessories in bold happy colors. Getting an old school traditional photo album bought back a lot of memories. Lately all of my photos are on the computer and I rarely get any of them printed out. In the past one of my favorite things to do was make yearly albums and now that Hudson is around I think I’m going to start that tradition again.

{ I received the album in the upper left hand corner, but also really like the bottom version as well.}

For a bigger photo album I really like the Felicity Memo Album from Exposures. Love that it can be personalized.

Do you still print out pictures and put them in actual albums or is it all digital images and if anything digitally made photo books that you have printed?

Him & Her abstract art has been spotted…

Most times I when I ship out orders from our etsy shop I never know the buyer. Except a couple of months ago I recognized the name on one of the shipping addresses. It was for one of my long time readers and blog friend Carmel from Our Fifth House. She decided to gift herself one of our paintings. She calls it the best birthday present she ever gave herself. How sweet is that!

She recently featured it in her home and I’m smitten. Check it out:

Isn’t her home beautiful? I love the combo of colors she has going on Totally in love with that rug, the brass trunk, the horse head on the mantle, the curtains…I think you get the idea. I love it all!  You can check out the rest of her home on this house tour.

If you are interested in our artwork you can check it out here.We will be adding more pieces soon and also work on custom pieces.

Thinking of adding some prints to the shop as well. What do you guys think? Good idea?

HomeGoods Happy with me!

I was so excited when I received an email a couple of weeks ago from the marketing department at HomeGoods. They had seen my work and blog and saw that I enjoyed working with HomeGoods products and they wanted me to share my love with their Pinterest followers.

Exciting, right!

I’m part of a team with 3 other interior designer/bloggers sprinkled throughout the US. I currently have my very own board under their page. You can check it out here.

I’ll be adding images that show you ways I’ve injected pieces from HomeGoods in my work with little design tips along the way. Would love for you to check it out.

{My favorite HG’s dish that I found in the dinnerware section, but love using in my living room. I love the pattern it adds to solid colored accent table. Hudson also loves it and is constantly grabbing it and moving it from place to place, which makes this momma very nervous. I should have bought a duplicate in case it meets an untimely death.}

You can check out the other bloggers featured as well.

Adi from Garden of Edlenis pinning here.
Amanda from Amanda Carol at Home is pinning here.
Hooper from Birds of a feather is pinning here.

Hope you guys enjoying seeing how we utilize HomeGoods products in our home/work.

What are your favorite finds from HG’s?

Scenes from my weekend…

Hi All,

Hope you had a lovely weekend. Here is a little round up of what we up to this weekend. It’s not the prettiest of moodboards, but since I was good at snapping iphone pics this weekend it will do the job.

No. 1: Went to WW and got my lifetime membership! I’m below my starting weight when I got pregnant with Hudson and I’ve been able to maintain it for 6 weeks including the madness of the holidays during which I never once said no to a cookie. :) Perhaps I’ll be rocking this bikini this summer. Probably not since the only time I’ve ever worn a bikini was when I was itty bitty and my mom put me in one.

No. 2: I decided to hit the ground running in 2013 with wrapping up all of these pending home projects I haven’t been able to cross off my list. We already re-painted the kitchen floor and next up on the list was repainting our bedroom. You see when I first painted our master bedroom I was a newly wed and in a totally romantic mood and decided to layer my base coat of Ashley Grey by Benjamin Moore with Candlelight paint from Ralph Lauren. It was pretty and shimmery, but every time I try and snap a picture of my room it looks crazy!!! See attached pic. It was driving me mad especially when I wallpapered one of the walls in the room. Of course other projects took priority so we never got around it. Well on Saturday right after WW we finally primed and painted the room and by the end of the day we were back in the room with everything put back together. Yay! Can’t wait to share pictures!

No. 3: Fun little tidbit that I got an email about this weekend was that when you take the Homegoods Stylescope quiz my blog comes up as an example of Sassy! Luckily I took the quiz myself and I actually got Sassy with a touch of boho, which I think is actually pretty true.

No. 4: After all that painting I was pretty spent so it was exciting to realize that my TV had free on demand Lifetime Movie Network movies. Lifetime movies are such a guilty pleasure for me that it was super exciting to pick out one or two movies to watch this weekend.

No. 5: Popped into a new to me goodwill store and picked up this cute faux croc green ice bucket! I hope Roxy approves of it. Now I just need a bar cart.

No. 6: Saw via twitter that my friend Sarah from Note to Self started a Print Shop!I love her design style and I’m already smitten!

What were you up to this weekend?

*P.S. Thanks for all of this comments on my getting to know you post. I had a great time reading everyone’s comments and responded to all of them. It was fun seeing all of the similarities we had.

Getting to know you…

One of the things that I love the most about blogging is connecting with like minded people from all over the world. I find it so hard to make friends as an adult especially one that no longer goes into an office setting so it’s been great to make friends through this blog of mine.

Lately things have been shifting a bit and I’ve noticed that while my readership  continues to grow there has been a decline in comments. To be honest it does get to me sometimes. Most blog posts can take hours and I was use to the days of 30 plus comments on posts and now I sometimes  feel like it’s just me and the crickets here. I totally get it though life has just gotten busier and people simply don’t have the time to comment like they use to. I’m at fault myself. Lately all of my blog reading has been happening on my phone and it’s hard to comment via cell phone. Still it’s no excuse. The reason I love blogging is the sense of community and I need to get back in there and start building new relationships.

{Let’s pretend we are girlfriends out on a shopping trip! }
Image and beautiful dresses via Kayce Hughes}

So, in honor of reconnecting with everyone I wanted to start doing a getting to know you feature that will help readers learn a bit more about me and help me learn about them. Since this is the first post in this series I figured it was best to start at the beginning and ask some basic and some fun questions.

1. Current Location:
2. Day Job/Career:
3. Latest Treat yo self/Or lusting after find:
4. Current monogrammed item you are itching for:
5. Coffee or Tea:
6: Last physical CD you purchase (not itunes or download):

Just cut and paste in the comment section and add your responses. :)

Here are mine:

1. Current Location: I was born and raised in NYC and now reside the outskirts aka suburbs of NYC. NY print by Sugar Paper.
2. Day Job/Career: I work as an interior decorator, blog editor of this blog and freelance writer.
3. Latest Treat yo self/Or lusting after find: I asked Santa for BlogShop and all of my Santa’s joined up to help me get the $$$ for the class. So excited to go! Currently lusting after these amazing dotted heels by Loeffler Randall.
4. Current monogrammed item you are itching for: It’s getting so cold in NY that I’m constantly using my gloves outdoors. Of course I have plain jane gloves and can’t use my phone while wearing them so I’m itching for these monogrammed stunners from C.Wonder with touch screen capability.
5. Coffee or Tea: I’m a tea girl all the way. My latest brews have been English Breakfast Tea from Harrods thanks to my youngest sister who just returned from across the pond.
6: Last physical CD you purchase (not itunes or download): I can’t believe I’m actually disclosing this, but the last physical CD I bought was Jesse McCartney’s Beautiful Soul. This was back in 2004 and I remember searching for it everywhere and finally finding a copy at Target. Whew! Don’t judge.

Now it’s your turn. If you have a free moment or two I would really like to read all of your responses. Someone must have a CD that is more embarrassing then mine.
