about me, thrift store

The one that got away…again…

  1. Michelle says:

OMG I would have sat down and cried right then! I would love love LOVE that for our living room.

  2. Rachel @ La Bella Bungalow says:

That would have been such a steal! It's GORGEOUS! Hopefully next time!

  3. Shannon @ What's Up Whimsy says:

ARE YOU SERIOUS?? That is crazy bad luck!! I don't want to rub it in, but that is the coolest thing I've ever seen a second hand store. At least you know what's potentially out there and that you can visit that store multiple times a week!

  4. Cristin says:

    rats! that stinks.

  5. Kelly Green says:

oh my – that is one seriously glorious ottoman! KG

  6. Full House says:

Your husband is SOOOO nice to build you a shed just for your finds,

If you were here I would hand you a tissue for your loss…darn it!

  7. ABC Dragoo says:

That is one good looking orange ottoman — just think — in the future, if you see something you can't imagine living without and it's within the budget, don't second guess yourself! Trust your gut.

  8. Laura PARING DOWN says:

Gosh I HEART orange. That was a beautiful find. But you're heading in the right direction by going with your gut and trying to purchase right away instead of leaving it (literally) to someone else.

That's going to pay off for you soon!

    🙂 Laura

  9. Saara @ GEORGE Interior Design says:

oh my gosh! I'm just sick looking at it on my screen! it was a beaut!

  10. Hirondelle Rustique says:

Aw bummer! That is an amazing find. I bet you'll end up getting something that works even better in the end though, but that still stinks!

  11. Jenny at LGN says:

NOOooooOOOO!! I'm so sad for you! I have a 'tufted-ottoman-that-never-was' story too so I totally feel your pain!

  12. High-Heeled Foot in the door says:

Thanks for all understanding and feeling the pain with me.

I was so sad yesterday after I left the store. I missed getting it by 3 mins!!!

Craziness. Jon on the other hand thinks his wife is crazy for being so sad.

Already drafting invitations for the memorial service I'm going to have in it's honor.

  13. Liz @ It's Great To Be Home says:

$68 DOLLARS??? That thing is gorgeous! Darn that other buyer, it should have been yours. Or mine. Or yours. 🙂

  14. Meghan says:

So painful!! My design heart hurts for your loss.

  15. Mackenzie {Design Darling} says:

Oh no! It is beautiful but I'm certain you could recreate the look since you're so crafty. I would love to hear a few of your favorite thrift stores in the tristate area. You always have the best resources! I can't wait to see your vintage furniture shed — what a dream!

  16. Leah says:

totally feeling your pain!! kravet & $68 don't usually go together in the same sentence. this must mean that there is something even better in store for you in future shopping!

  17. Kathysue says:

Omgosh, I am crying for you that was an amazing deal. Those things are so hard to let go of. I once did not buy this very old wood box because I could not seem to open it, marked $1.99. As I went to the register another lady was buying it. I told her I could not get it open so I passed it up. She opened it for me and it turned out to be a verrrrrry old smoking box completely lined in nickel!! I died. She was an antique dealer and knew she had just bought a treasure. It took me weeks to let go of that loss, $1.99 and a little more determination to open it and it would be mine. I guess I really still have not let go of it, lol, Kathysue

  18. Sweet Nothings says:

    i just cried

  19. sara says:

This brings a tear to my eye! Kravet? Orange? Tufted? $68 DOLLARS?!?! Very depressing.

  20. Renee (eatliveshop.com) says:

That's awful!!! I feel your pain girl!

  21. Pigtown-Design says:

I would have just sat and sobbed my heart out! Bummer!

  22. LindsB says:

I would have died right there and offered them more money- omg that piece is amazing!!!

  23. Dayka (Life +Style) says:

lucky, lucky girl (about the shed).

sucks about the ottoman. that thing was baaaaadddd!

  24. Brand New and Beautiful says:

I would have probably freaked out if I were you! That's such a neat piece…

  25. Shannon @ Sit.Relax.Gossip. says:

UGH!! I completely understand, because this used to happen to me all the time on Craigslist. Our luck will turn around, right?

  26. PS~Erin says:

    Oh, I'm aching for you!

  27. petiteflower says:

I have lost many a treasure to my indecisions! I feel for you. Don't give up, you will find something soon!

  28. Averill says:

That ottoman is FANTASTIC. So bummed you missed out… 🙁

And yes, maybe a parttime job is in order (or maybe just befriend someone on the inside so you can get a head's up on items before they hit the floor)!

  29. Sixty-Fifth Avenue says:

Oh bummer! I had that happen to me once over a mirror at a thrift store. I followed the women who had it in her cart and asked her if she would take a few dollars more for it. I think she thought I was crazy so she gave it to me.

  30. CECELIA says:

OMG *tears* what a perfect ottoman.

  31. Bromeliad says:

    Wow. I grieve with you.

  32. Hello Lover... says:

this makes me so sad for you – I know this feeling all too well. I left a gorgeous navy blue wing back chair with nail head trim at homegoods. I returned to buy it and it was gone – enter heartache. sorry about your ottoman – we all have those moments.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]

round up of budget friendly bar carts

Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]

For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
