My roaring 20s…
Today I wake up a year older. I’m not normally excited about birthdays. This birthday was one that I was particularly not very happy about because this lady was leaving her 20s and turning 30!
A couple of months ago though I decided I was going to embrace it instead of freak out. My twenties were full of wonderful things. I graduated from college, got my first job, got married, purchased my first home, and started my own business. All great and wonderful things. I feel like I lived a lot and learned a lot in my 20s and I’m ready to tackle whatever my 30s will hold.
This birthday I will be doing something I normally don’t do and that’s having a party! I tend to shy away from all attention directed at me so parties in my honor are not my thing, but leaving your 20s is a big deal so a fete is to be had.
My family has been planning it for awhile now and since they know that I don’t enjoy surprises I was told last week that it was in the works and I needed to report to a certain locale in the city this coming Saturday decked in 1920s attire!
Some of my favorite books/movies take place in the 1920s and since I’m leaving my 20s they decided to make it a roaring 20s party.
This all means that today I need to head out and try to find the perfect dress.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Wow, I love the roaring 20’s idea! I’m also turning 30 this year and trying not to freak out. I have a little while, mine is the end of Nov. I was hoping to go big with a trip to Africa so we’ll see if that can happen. Anyways, hope you have the BEST birthday!

Happy Birthday! I hope you have a fabulous party–it sounds like a blast and a great way to ring in your 30’s (or should I say “swing”). Oh, and listen to everyone who says the 30’s are fabulous because they are (I’ve had 2 years experience myself). In my experience, the 20’s was full of life changing events and experiences but the 30’s is when you get to focus on what you really want out of life. For me, it’s a slower pace but that works for me.
How FUN! Happy 30th! No doubt the next decade will be even more wonderful than the last. So many May blogger birthdays (mine is next week, but also Melanie of You Are My Fave, Bryn Alexandra, Jamie Meares…)

one of my friends had a surprise roaring 20’s party and it was amazing. they had someone come and do her hair and make up at the beginning of the party, because she didn’t know it was going to happen, and even had an awesome dress and headband for her.
