This latest DIY gift project is one of my most budget friendly one. Ikat is having a big moment in the design world and you can find it anything from toss pillows to cell phone cases and everything in between.
Here are the supplies that are needed:
The wooden frame was picked up in the wood section of Michaels for $1! Everything else I had at my house. Any sort of paint can be used. We used acrylic for our artwork.
I decided to go with a favorite color combo of mine: emerald green, pale blue and navy.
Step 1: You don’t have to go with the same color combo I used, but I would paint the whole frame the lightest color out of your color combo. Due to the wood grain it might take 2 coats to get good coverage. Once it’s dry use a straight edge and pencil and draw diagonal lines. You can measure the spacing between each line, but I just eye balled it.
Step 2: Make diagonal lines going in the opposite direction as well. In order to get the diamond pattern you simply take two of the original diagonal lines and use them as your starting/ending points for your new line.
Step 3: Paint over diamond pattern. Now since we are trying to recreate an ikat look don’t go painting a straight line over the pencil marks. You can be a bit messy and do brush strokes going up and down the lines.
Step 4: Paint inner area of ikat diamond. Again no need to have perfect dots. I went with messy diamond shape blobs.
Step 5: In order to fully cover the pencil marks I decided to go over the paint lines once more.
Step 6: Let the piece fully dry and then apply wipe on poly and protect the finish and get a high gloss shine.
Enjoy your masterpiece! Overall budget is less than $5 and it took about 15 mins from start to finish.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]

For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
