A perfect summer weekend was totally needed and this weekend not disappoint. Saturday was super hot and since Jon’s parents have a pool I decided it was time to have an impromptu pool party! I quickly went thru my fridge and made a couple of sides like this colorful fruit salad:
It’s all about presentation! Along with my color blocked fruit salad I whipped up a quick caprese salad, packaged up some left over cheese tortellini and farm stand salad (aka a mix of corn, green beans and tomatoes in a vinaigrette. Then we just picked up some hot dogs and buns and called some friends over. My in-laws are only 4 blocks away from us, but it totally felt like a little get away. My weekend country house for the day!
What could be better than yummy food, fun friends and a pool on a hot summer day!
Aren’t my MIL’s hydrangeas so pretty? I was very tempted to do a little snip snip, but don’t worry I left them as is!
I must admit that I did raid there freezer and treat myself to popsicle. The colors were totally on brand so, I had to snap a photo.
After the pool we all go ready and headed out to go sailing. Jon picked up a Sunfish a couple of years ago and has gone out with Hudson, but never with Hudson and Asher. Since Asher is now older and listens to directions better we decided to test it out with both of them. I stayed on the shore, but the guys headed out for a little sail.
After all that sailing we headed back home and walked into town to grab a slice of pizza and then we had finish the summer night with some ice cream! We headed to a near by ice cream shop called, Nana’s ice cream and coffee shop. It has a quite vibe and the staff is always super nice and the ice cream with their homemade waffle cones never disappoints.
The best part of the little outing is that we found out they have a massive backyard patio area at the ice cream shop. It’s not really decorated so, of course the decorator in me was already planning how amazing it could look. I’m always jealous when I find amazing store front especially ones with outdoor space! Ah! Hopefully I will get my dream of one day owning a shop of my own!
On Sunday we headed out east! Our first stop was Croteaux Vineyards. They are the only rose only vineyard in the United States. It’s all rose all the time! I’m going to do an extensive post on them later, but for now enjoy this little peek.
Then we headed into Greenport and rode the carousel a couple of times and did some fishing at the dock while listening to live music from a near by restaurant!
Tried taking a shot with the boys and this is what happened!
We had so many people with us on our little adventure out east! My mom came, my two sisters, my brother in law and our friend Maura, aka Aunt Maura according to the boys.
While we fished the others explored Greenport. We then met up at 5 and took a short ferry ride over to Shelter Island. Jon’s sister’s boyfriend opened up a restaurant there called, Isola. It just opened up a couple of weeks ago and it’s speciality is Italian food with homemade pasta!
We ordered lots of yummy food like brick oven pizza, flatbread with olive oil and rosemary, chicken parmigiana, Kobe meatballs and this amazing burrata caprese. YUM to all of it!
After our dinner we went to Crescent Beach to walk off our dinner and see the sunset. The boys thought it would be the perfect time for a dip!
It was a jam packed weekend, but super fun! We are having a rainy and gray day Monday, which is helping us have a relaxed day at home doing some chores and squeezing in some work as well!
Happy Monday!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
