I have done a lot of home decor DIY projects in my day. It’s one of my loves and something I have always done on the blog. Some are a bit more advanced than others, but I must say that this is the easiest one I have ever tackled! I have loved seeing Mandi Smethell’s rainbow yarn wall art and then fell in love, even more, when I saw the rainbow swirls! Of course, I wanted to try my own take on it and I’m happy to report I came up with my own version of the DIY colorful wrapped yarn wall art trend!
DIY COLORFUL WRAPPED YARN WALL ART
Isn’t it pretty! I’m obsessed and think it would make an excellent holiday gift! If you are crafter/maker when it comes to Christmas gifts I think the earlier you start the better. The star of this project is the colorful yarn. Now you can go with Omegacryl Yarn, which is Mexican yarn that comes in a variety of colors and is thinner than traditional yarn. Think of the yarn you see on pom poms. For this project, I used Red Heart yarn because it’s pretty inexpensive and comes in an array of colors! The key to this project is picking up 3/4″ twist rope as your base. I also found it available in colors, which I think would be a fun twist!
Ready to get started on your DIY colorful yarn wall art? All you need to do is pick your first color and knot it around your twist rope about 4 inches from the start of it and start wrapping! You can go for as long as you like and then simply knot it off and continue with the next color and so on. Again make sure you leave 4 inches of twist rope without wrapped yarn. That’s pretty much it! The colors and length of the piece are up to you.
The only additional piece you need is this hair brush, which helps you brush your edges.
Now if you like you can swirl it and make it a circle. In order to get the circle to stay in place you need to stitch the swirls together. I decided to simply make loose knots like these. You can play around with it until you get a look that you liked.
Then I used clear push pins (you could also use nails) and have the yarn lay on the pushpin so that it stays in place.
I’m in love! Super easy to tackle! Most of the work can get done while your watching your favorite TV show in bed.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
