I don’t know if I’m crazy or brilliant as of yet, but I have decided to take part in the Fall One Room Challenge and tackle the two bathrooms in our new house!!!!!! I figured nothing but a concrete deadline to get a fire under my butt and make sure the contractor is moving along with things like taping and spackling the walls to make sure it all gets done! I decided to tackle both bathrooms because the powder room is a teeny tiny footprint and only around 4 ft by 5ft. It just feels like adding half a project, not a second additional full project. At least that is what I’m telling myself, plus they both need to get done in order for us to move in so, why not do it at the same time. Do I have a concrete plan for what I’m doing design-wise? Ummm I would love to tell you I have it all figured out, but I’m still trying to nail done some things. I have had some hiccups with wallpapers needed a 6 week lead time and having to make some changes.
Here is what we are starting with: This is the main bathroom in the house. We have never had huge bathrooms and while this bathroom is larger than our last bathroom it’s still on the small size. So, we had to get creative with the placement of the toilet. Jon realized that if we moved the doorway we could move the toilet and then get a larger vanity. Originally we weren’t sure if we wanted a tub, but I enjoy taking baths, and having at least one bathtub in your house is good for resale value, so the shower area got turned into a tub.
The toilet has been moved in this progress shot:
Framing out of the new doorway:
The doorway has been sheetrocked, taped, and spackled, the old shower area has been demoed and new tub and base flooring was replaced. Now we just need to get walls up in the rest of the bathroom to work on tiling the shower area!
The powder room downstairs is teeny tiny. It was difficult to find something to fit the space, but I think we did it! For some reason, I can’t find a true before photo of it, but here it is once it was gutted.
I told you it was teeny tiny! From this photo, you can see exactly where it is in the house. Right, when you walk in the front door it’s immediately to your left.
WOW! I’m a little scared now about everything that needs to get accomplished, but I know it can get done if we don’t get any surprises! We have already handled all new plumbing, electrical, and heating in the house so, the bathrooms should be ready to get dressed and pretty!
Wish us luck! Are you taking part in the One Room Challenge? You can follow along with all of the other guest participants here.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
You have your work cut out. Can’t wait to watch the progress. I know it will be fabulous.
