Ever since watching Beauty and the beast as a little girl the dream has always been to have a home where I could have a separate library complete with a rolling ladder and rainbow color-coded bookcases! Ok, Belle wasn’t up to date on color-coded book styling, but this girl thinks it’s the perfect way to display books! A separate library isn’t happening in our new home, because we simply do not have the extra room to make that happen. So now the dream has moved to a built-in wall in our living room where we have bookcases with open and closed shelving and a reading nook to curl up with the boys. Currently, I’m trying to figure out if I should hire it out or try and DIY myself. Originally I was all about hiring it out, but getting quotes in the $8,000-$11,000 range has me quickly look into DIY options! We shall see where we land!
Here is the wall where we want to put it:
We want a shelving unit with closed cabinets on the bottom to the left and right of the window. Then the area directly before the window we want to have a bench area where we can put a cushion and have a daybed for some sorts.
We already have the design of it figured out, but now I’m left to wonder if I want the builtins painted white or painted the same color as the walls. I also need to figure out the styling of the bookcase shelving. Do I mix it up with books and accessories or do I follow Gray Benko’s amazing bookcase built-in style and go with rainbow color-coded books!!!!
Now, I have a ton of books, but lately, I haven’t been picking up hardcover books and I’m not sure how many I have that will help me make the bookcases color-coded. I did a little digging and I found this amazing Etsy shop called, Library by Design! They have book bundles in a rainbow collection of books! Such a fast and easy way to fill up a bookcase! I think I’m probably going to start searching during my thrifting tips, but I love having this source for any colors I may be missing when I’m done.
What do you think? Rainbow color-coded bookcases or mix it up!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
