So, this past weekend my dear sister, Danay and her roomies decided to throw a housewarming/Christmas party.
I thought I was all set to go during the week. Had a stylish outfit picked out with my favorite skinny jeans and chunky sweater when both of my sisters informed me that it was a bit more formal than that and to top it off I had to dress like a Christmas Ball. Hmmm..
Saturday was spent running around like crazy trying to find an outfit that reflected a Christmas Ball.
I was in search of something full of sparkle and probably totally gaudy, but fab at the same time. Oh yea I only want to spend around $40 bucks. This was not an easy fit to accomplish.
I find decided to go with traditional black, a pop red with my shoes and of course some Christmas Balls!
Here are my stylish shoes:
I could only find an image in purple, but I got them in red. In searching for an image today I just realized that they are part of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s new line at JC PENNEY. I got a ton of compliments on them and due to a crazy sale they were only $21.
Here is the happy couple:
As for my Christmas Balls they were used as earrings! Everyone loved them, but they were super heavy and inserted into my ears with metal ornament hangers, which meant they were very quickly taken off. I tried to pouf my hair up. It looked wonderful at home and then deflated completely by the time I arrived. (Did I mentioned that we drove around for 40 mins looking for parking!)
Jon wanted a cheesy Christmas sweater to wear so I was not only searching for myself during my shopping outing. Apparently cheesy sweaters were either already sold out everywhere or no longer being sold, because this is the closest I could get to.
After a trip to radio shack Jon was set to rig up his lights. It’s a little hard to tell from the image, but there green and red lights on the snowflakes! He was a big hit. Guys take notice rigging lights up on your outfit will the get the attention of every girl or guy at the party. Jon had his pick with everyone vying for his attention.
Here is a family shot so you can see what everyone else was wearing.
Lauren (our sister from another mother) came dressed in plaid, Danay (our hostess with the mostess) was in 80s garb with a poufy tulle dress and statement headband, Ximena (my other sissy) came as a Hanukah ball and was dressed in silver and blue from head to toe.
Ok so one more picture that I totally have to add. My sister, Ximena completely hates when people give a thumbs-up. So you must know what I had to whisper to Jon about a second before she snapped a pic.
All in all fun was had. I laughed and laughed and laughed some more, which was completely what the Doctor ordered. We finally called it a night at 2 am. Ah we are getting old. These other young things stayed out to the wee hours of the morning.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
