Here in NY we got to embrace the start of spring with a wonderfully warm and sunny weekend. Now of course we are back to gray clouds and raindrops, but for two glorious days I was living in the land of dresses without tights and sunglasses.
With spring comes the re-immersion of pastel colors. From stuffed bunnies to Easter basket treats all around I begin to see light shades of pink, purple, blue and green.
While pastels in design conjure up images of bad decisions from the 80’s if done correctly it can look very current and chic.
{ Oh pastels gone bad!}
I think the key to using pastels is to make sure to balance it with some darker shades.
This chair had to be my favorite thing in the display. Loved the buttery leather, loved the shade of blue/green it came in and to make it even more perfect it had nail head trim!
The bedding display was a bit more neutral, but I still loved it. Very understated yet stylish. It totally looked like something people would actually use in their homes not just something from a magazine spread.
There whole set-up immediately reminded me of these:

Don’t you think they would work framed up in a gallery wall in any of the rooms from above?
How do you feel about pastel shades in home decor? Do we love it or not so much?
Added more pictures to my DIFFA event recap. Now you can see what I wore and check me out at the table! Go have a peek!
I'm definitely a fan of pastels.. if they're done right. Perfect example being Pheobe Howard rooms. Gorgeous, but they can get almost boring after you've seen so many.
woo that first picture…awful! we had a pastel-ed out 80's/early 90's house for a while. pickled cabinets, peach walls, lots of seafoam green and pink. awful.
Totally put egg prints in our guest room last year, LOVE that they're in style, I'm a big fan of natural things, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that aqua leather chair, I bet it felt like buttahhhh. *Amy
I love spring time colors in my home with a balance act done with touches of black and white. In fact I did a post today on what I like and what I don't like. The 80s era was so bad in design and in fashion, that first picture made me twitch!! Good examples on this post and I am dying for those egg prints, Love them!! Happy Tuesday,Kathysue
It is amazing how the same colors can be redone in such a good way… That first image reminds me of our old beach house when I was in middle and high school. Niceeeee! Miami Vice what?

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Fall is the perfect season to host an outdoor movie night in your backyard! It’s that time of year when outdoor furniture is still outside and it gets dark earlier than the summer which means your little kiddos can enjoy the movie night as well. It’s so nice to transform your backyard with cozy blankets, […]
Can you believe it’s already November? Before we know it Thanks No. 1 Modern bar cart with patterned sides that looks great as is, but would also look amazing painted a pop of color! Plus it’s only $157. No. 2 This lucite bar cart is a personal favorite of mine. Look at those chic lines! […]
For the longest time our backyard was mainly just grass and a little small area where we laid down some pavers so that we could set out a little plastic table/chairs during the summer. Not exactly ideal for entertaining. For the past couple of years we have wanted to build a deck and enjoy the […]
What a gorgeous collection of pastels.. I heart mitchell gold too! xo
agreed. the first image – oh no! but the second gets it all right!
I love pastels, but I agree that I love to see them in combination with a bold, darker color. I love those framed pictures!
Usually I like a plain base color and then bright accent pieces but this pastel look is pretty nice!

Nice selection of well-done rooms. Pastels can definitely go very wrong, very easily, but you've shown that they can also be really beautiful.
I love those egg prints! Thank you for sharing.
love them as long as you add in some rich browns or bolder, darker colors to deepen the room.
(ps–i WANT that mint armoire)
love the egg prints, so great for any time of year!

those eggs are wonderful! you seriously always find the coolest stuff.
I agree – pastels require balance! These spaces nail it.
You must admit, it's a challenge to show 80s mauve done right… That first pic brings back some bad memories.
