The temperature is going to hit 85 degrees today in NY, which means all that I can think of is spending some time outdoors.
One of the projects we want to tackle this year is a deck. Over the weekend Jon was at Big Lots and saw something he knew I would love right away!
Now it may look like an ordinary gazebo, but it had me at BAMBOO plus the super price of $200 didn’t hurt!
Picture of it in the store:
Bamboo detailing:
That’s right folks it has bamboo detailing throughout all of the framing. Of course my immediate question was can we spray-paint it? Poor Jon said yes so now of course I want to paint it in a bright shade! Perhaps red?
Then I would leave the top as is, but those side curtains would be coming down and I would be making new ones with this:
Outdoor fabric that is only 9.95 a yard and with a classic stripe that just screams summer to me.
Add to the mix some red French bistro chairs, which are on sale this month for $115 each.
Then search Craigslist for a pedestal table that you can refinish.
Voila found this baby for $30. With a little sanding and a lot of high-gloss black paint we would be in business.
Of course I want to hang something like this in it:
Woo hoo! I think I just convinced myself that the gazebo is a must buy. Jon was itching to pick it up since Sunday and I’ve kept telling him that we should wait until the deck is built, but with only 6 left at my local Big Lots. I will be picking one up tonight!
* When you go onto Big Lots site it asks you if you want to join their rewards club. Do it! You get their ads emailed to you two days in advance and then tend to put 20% off coupons in those emails as well.
I cent believe Big Lots turned up on one of my favorite design blogs! I love that they stock Martha Stewart craft stuff there. Also, the current Tuesday Morning add shows striped Waverly outdoor curtain panels, $60 for a pair. Check 'em out!
LOVE it! Buy it, paint it red, get the black and white curtain. It will look like it cost you a fortune!! Can't wait to see the it finished! Oh, and I love it when men just agree…
Buy it! With all of your creative ideas it is going to be an amazing outdoor space perfect for lots of entertaning – can't wait to see how it turns out.
What a fabulous color palette! Oh how i wish I had a little patio so that I could buy goreous furniture like this. Girl, you've sure got an eye for fabulousness!!
oooohhhh weeeeee gurlllll, I cannot wait to see the after picture of this one! You are an inspiration! I only hope no one from Dayton saw your post so that my Big Lots has some left when I get back to Ohio next week.
I am in love with that find! I would change the side drapes too…wow, I can already envision summer events in your yard. Wish I had a Big Lots near me…I've never been to one. Maybe, I need to explore! Great post!
Visiting from Dreams of Perfection, honey you better make that chandelier from out of season fake cranberries if you can…
Lol…I had a neighbor who had one of those last year for about five good months…all I have to say is be careful of high winds and definitely change the fabric…
I am all over this! The bamboo frame itself is worth the price! I would be doing the same…trying to tweek it to my liking. It can't be like ALL the other outdoor rooms in my neighborhood! I am thinking hot pink sunbrella fabric panels tied back in the summer. By the way…anchor it well (more than you think)to your deck or patio. The way those are tented, sends them flying all over the place and all it takes is one good summer storm. Love Big Lots too! Great post. Lisa
Great post! I want your Big Lots find. wow! You got it, right?! And your plans to give it a face lift are spot on! Perfect, perfect — as is the temperature there. cheers, -susan

ON THE BLOG
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
