A couple of months ago I started working with a great client in the city! (Hi Kerry!) Her apt is one of my absolute favorites. While it may be cozy aka tight quarters she has three levels and outdoor space! What’s not love? Plus it’s near one of my favorite Italian pastry shops….VENIEROS. So you know where I swing by after all of my meetings.
Within the last couple of months we had come with design plans for the whole place and we were sticking with a cream, blue, tan combo in the living room.
This fabric was a big inspiration point for the whole look.
So furniture pieces had been ordered, artwork had been ordered, window treatments were being made by the seamstress, etc. We were in the final stages and talking about install dates, when I totally had a change of plans.
While searching for fabric for another client I fell in love with a new fabric that I thought would work wonders in Kerry’s room. So I stayed up like a mad woman one night and put it all together.
Because Kerry had wanted to incorporate red into the space when I saw this fabric it all came together!
I thought Kerry would think I was nuts because I was giving her a totally new look when we were almost finished, but I sent my ideas to her anyway.
Here is the new look!
In reality we kept a lot of same things we already had planned for the room, but the new pillow choices just helped to tie everything together. The inspiration fabric is getting made into a lumbar pillow with some diagonal stripe piping! I love designing pillows with contrasting piping. *Stay tuned for a SHOP feature on the new blog!
Another favorite new addition has to be these:
I think me and Jamie have the same favorite vendor, because I spotted them in her shop!
Fingers crossed all will be installed when I return from vacation! Moral of the story is that it’s okay to change your mind. Designing a room is a long process and along the way your likes/dislikes may change. Just go with your gut!
Stay tuned for a fun give-away this afternoon from one of favorite home stores!
I love your new design plan — and those lamps are fantastic! What are you using the Calico Corners' blue & white ikat print on? I'm thinking about using that fabric for curtains in my living room.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]

OMG!! I love that same peacock print too!! 🙂
I love your new design plan — and those lamps are fantastic! What are you using the Calico Corners' blue & white ikat print on? I'm thinking about using that fabric for curtains in my living room.
Averill,
We liked some IKAT artwork, but it was $600 per piece. So instead of a watercolor IKAT piece we are just framing the fabric instead.
It would look amazing as curtains! Especially in your living room!
Now that is dedication to come up with two designs. I love the chest that the lamps are on in the image you showed here!
Oh, I LOVE that x bench!!
The rooms looks great!!

The x bench is $295 in the zebra fabric, less in other fabrics that they carry.
