Yay my favorite series, In Her Shoes is finally back. This lady has been very busy in her shoes and hadn’t had time to schedule this, but I’m finally back in the grove. There I typed it so now I have to stick with it! I have a massive list of ladies I would love to participate so fingers crossed all goes as planned.
Today’s IN HER SHOES featured lady is Katherine Dupps from Katherine Rally.
Katherine Rally is run by Katherine and her husband Rally who moved their family to Bali and now design textiles! Oh dream life!
They make pillows:
So sit back, relax and enjoy a day in Katherine’s life in paradise!

The day starts with breakfast on our terrace, but no time for a photo. I have to make the two kids breakfast, pack a lunch for one and get him dressed for school. Then, Rally and I head out for a run. We run through the rice fields and on a clear day we can see the the tops of three volcanoes.
It’s back to the house for a quick shower and then I hop on my bike for the 10 minute ride to town.
The internet connection at our house is too weak, so I answer emails at an internet cafe in town for 2-3 hours.
Time for a break from the computer. One of my favorite things to do in Bali is to act like a tourist. There is usually a reason things are touristy. We walk up the beautiful Campuan Ridge for a coconut water.
Here is Rally enjoying a nutritious and fresh green coconut – yum!
This man is there every day with his makeshift stand and I love the way he has decorated it with a few hibiscus flowers.
We walk down the ridge back to town and here is a farmer harvesting grass used for the roofs of traditional Balinese homes.
Now I head home for some work in our home office. Today I am organizing memo samples for the Dorian-Bahr showroom in Houston.
This includes stapling the information cards to each sample with the fabric contents, repeats and pattern names. I actually don’t find this to be a tedious task. I enjoy the zen-like rhythm of the folding and stapling. And I also like touching and seeing each fabric – I never get sick of the patterns and colors.
One of the perks of working from home is getting to spend time with my daughter while I am working. Seeing this little smiling face every day is like an addiction. I think the tropical weather agrees with her, don’t you?
While I am organizing fabric, Rally is working on new additions to our collection for 2011. This is a common sight at our house, at a restaurant or anywhere with a flat surface. He carries paper and pens with him wherever we go.
Our day ends with a visit to our friend, Walker’s house. We bring the kids over there for pizza and pool time. We met Walker 8 years ago when Rally and I were backpacking through southeast Asia. We were sitting next to him at a cafe in Ubud and struck up a conversation about design. We were living in Aspen and Walker in Palm Beach.
We never saw or spoke to Walker again after that day at the cafe. I never would have guessed that when we crossed paths again, we would be living in Bali with our kids going to the same pre-school.

A big thank you to Katherine for sharing a little glimpse into her life! Amazing. Fingers crossed her family will want a NY vacation at some point so we can house swap! 🙂

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
