Simple delights…

  1. Lindsey says:

One of my MOST fav things are fresh flowers!! I would have done the same thing!! he he!! =) Enjoy!!

  2. Monique says:

I DO! They are gorgeously wonderful and suprisingly hearty. They are a little on the heavy side so you have to grow them through rings.. other than that they are really low maintenance!

  3. Michelle says:

    Totally worth it.

  4. The Brick Cottage says:

We inherited one with our house and we love it! I know they live for a long time (50+ years) but I don't know how easy it is to establish them. I planted one this spring but I don't think it made it but I probably planted it at the wrong time. Our peonies finished blooming about a month ago. Sigh. They were pretty while they lasted.

  5. Carolyn says:

Umm..I do it over here (in Austria) a lot..there are so many pretty flowers everywhere..and my husband tells me to do it when it's dark. Haha. terrible. And, yes, our front garden has some gorgeous peonies…but I didn't plant them: http://lifeingraz.blogspot.com/2010/05/peonies-for-me.html

  6. cassie @ hi sugarplum! says:

I planted a peony bush two years ago…not a single bloom yet!! And I've been known to snip the 'extra' blooms off other's. They aren't enjoying them inside…it's only fair to the flowers to have a loving home!

  7. Holly says:

i planted two bulbs this fall and they have risen to little bushes, but no buds or flowers, i hear that takes a year after you plant it. but i did hear they last 50-75 years!!

  8. Courtney @ Project Pretty says:

Bahaha.. Camilla!! You're terrible but I would probably do the exact same thing. 🙂

  9. On the Glam says:

I'm still working on the yard… But these are gorgeous!

  10. Lovely Little Nest says:

Although I've never been brave enough to "permanently borrow" flowers from a neighbor, that's probably because none of my neighbors ever had peonies!

I have, however, taken flowers from our around our apartment complex…but I figure it's all part of the "amenities" we pay for 😉

  11. Kat says:

I love peonies!!! They are tied with sunflowers as my favorite, so big, beautiful and fun!

  12. kristen says:

check out my picture of peonies! love them!

  13. bazaarofserendipity says:

Are you kidding? I do this about every three or four days. Im just wondering why the hell are their not any peonies around my house! Lucky girl!

  14. Styledish says:

My very favorite fleur!! I too "borrowed" a few from my neighbor the other night under the cover of darkness!!

  15. Lavender and Lilies says:

I love peonies but I haven't dared plant any because I would kill them.

  16. spark! (Ada-Marie) says:

We have peonies and they are pretty low maintenance, but don't feel bad about clipping them because the die quickly after they bloom, so they would have been wilting in 24 hrs anyway! 🙂 xxoo

  17. vicki archer says:

They are gorgeous…I can understand why you snipped them off. I am sure the owners would of been happy to give them to you anyway. Have a happy weekend, xv.

  18. Helena - A Diary of Lovely says:

you are definitely not the only one! 🙂 my mom also does it around the neighborhood when she is in town
These are GORGEOUS! well done 😉

  19. ~Mendie~ says:

Good Timing on this post…we currently have 2 bright pink peony plants that we transplanted from one of our grandparents house a few years ago…they are blooming like gangbusters. I only water them occasionally if the rain doesn't make a visit. We have a few towards the back of our yard that we are waiting to bloom that we planted last fall. I have some chopped in my kitchen right now!

I have posted a few pictures of them on my regular blog and Project365 blog this month…come check them out!

  20. Deliciously Organized says:

this is so funny, because I'm tempted to take one of the thousands of roses on my street daily and my fiancé is mortified of the idea! but i'm more tempted now! yours look beautiful!

  21. Anonymous says:

Great blog. I am a bit surprised that so many would cut flowers from their neighbors plants! I think it's actually sorta rude. If everyone picked flowers from my yard, I wouldn't have any. One reason I don't cut flowers from my own yard to take inside, is because I like to have my yard look nice for others to admire…but not to steal from. People take fruit from our trees all the time…with large bags in hand. All you have to do is kindly as your neighbor. I hand out bags of fruit to all of our neighbors. It would be the polite thing to do. Okay, maybe you hit a nerve with this one..ha! I just wish people would feel a little less "entitled"!

  22. Blueprint Bliss says:

Love those. And I would be very tempted to help myself to a few.

One of my next door neighbors is 92 and really can't see well- so I occasionally help myself to a couple of her hydrangeas. I know she doesn't know- but I wonder if her children that come by to check on her notice them missing! 🙂

  23. Debb says:

I have a few plants and I love them… starting them is pretty easy… ask a friend for a start in the fall… now, the only bad thing is they usually don't bloom the first year; but, wait and the second year is wonderful and pretty soon you will need to divide and that means more peonies.. and then you can share with a friend. Oh, please try them… they are too beautiful not to have at least one or two or my dream is a very long line of nothing; but, peonies…

  24. Hello Lover... says:

Love peonies! I have them in my living room and kitchen right now – bought them at the farmers market. I would love to cut someone elses but my husband would probably have a heart attack!

I always want to cut a branch of peoples hydrangeas as well!

  25. Maggie Rose says:

I've never ACTUALLY snipped any, but I do think about it a lot! Especially the neighbors who have SO many blooms!

I do have a great picture of Ryan with one hand in the neighbor's rosemary bush and the other hand going into his pocket (this was before we planted our own little herb garden). They had three GIANT bushes on the sidewalk, we needed some for a dinner roll recipe, and three stems was like $6 at the market. No brainer 🙂

  26. Claire Watkins, ASID allied says:

The peonies at my little brother's in engagement were out of a neighbor's yard, LOL…
I didn't do it, not that time at least!

  27. Isabel says:

HAHA! You are bold and I love it! I'm always eyeing my neighbors' hydrangea bushes and I SO WISH I could grow peonies here in TX. They're easy growing perennials I read – try them so I can snip some from you 🙂

ON THE BLOG

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.

Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.

On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]

new-farrow-and-ball-paint-color-picks-for-my-house

Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]

I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
