My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Wow! Kristen did an amazing job. Best photo I’ve seen all day – that dog is precious!
I knew I recognized that first headboard! So elegant. I’d love to try making it myself, but chances are that it’ll turned out a mangled mess.
love it. I want that ruby green one so bad.
but look at that pups mug. he just needs a snuggle!
That is a great shape and her dog is adorable !
Okay, SO much to comment on.
First, dying over the yellow and black room!
Secondly – Must. DIY. That. Headboard…
and thirdly (maybe most importantly) GIVE ME THAT DOG.
Thanks for the wonderful post!
I’ve been toying with the idea of making an upholstered headboard for ages. I have some really great fabric that was left over from a client project that would be perfect. You used egg crates/mattress pads to create the foam layer, right? I have a feeling it will be one of those things that I do and say, “I should have done this a lot sooner.”
I was toying with the idea for a while too and definitely had that “I shoulda tackled this earlier” moment after!
I’ve read that you can use egg crates as foam to keep the cost down. I just called around local fabric stores asking for recommendations for places that distribute foam (that can cut it down based on your template). If you are doing a complicated shape like I did, even though its a bit pricier, it might be worth it. But if you are doing a simple shape, I say save that mulah and get some egg crates! 🙂
Ok. Now I want one! Only thing is, in NYC, it is so SO hard to find someone to do a major custom-cut like that. (That is why I have been thinking about buying my own jigsaw… I could use that in 650 sq. ft., right??) Also, see that little vase of flowers on her bedside table? I just replicated that Kate Spade bowl. It was super easy and I’m really in love with it. I posted it today if you’d like to see! Cheers!
I cut it out myself! SO much easier that you would think and a Jigsaw is only about $90! I did mine in my tiny dining room, so I’m sure you could do it in your apartment! If you don’t have experience, get an extra piece of wood to do a few practice cuts with. You can check out my instructions here: http://thischarminghouse.blogspot.com/2011/01/headboard-instructions-part-i-making.html.
Also I ADORE your Kate Spade rose bowl – I’ve had my eye on the one with white spots for a while! Might have to try that DIY 🙂
I have loved that headboard forever.
Just goes to show you that anything is possible. Love both headboards!
Camila- The bursts of black in the fabric of Michelle’s headboard are fun. So pretty. I like the diy one, too!
Because of your outstanding efforts in promoting all things stylish, I’m awarding you the Stylish Blogger Award. See the latest post on my blog!

I just love the diy headboard—it’s done very well!
It’s beautiful. I just finished working on one this weekend. I’ll be posting about it by the weekend. I decided to go for a straight line to keep it more modern. I also was a little scared to go for a shapely one. They are really easy to make.
LOL, that’s my favorite picture too – and what a cool headboard. The possibilities are endless when you design it yourself with YOUR favorite fabric.
I made that headboard last summer. Getting the fabric stretched over the straight horizontal part was a bitch! I almost ripped the fabric. But all in all it finally turned out fabulous.
Great DIY. We also published a post onthe same topic here http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/blog/abcs-of-decorating-u-is-for-upholstered-headboards/ but there is not cute dog in our post!
love that headboard!! it is so so cute!!
