This weekend was spent adding a couple more new items to one of my client’s home.
Entry table lamps arrived:
{Can you find Jon in the picture? }
Mirror for the master bedroom also arrived:
{When you have a King size bed make sure you fill the space properly. We went with 3 euro shams and 32″ diameter mirror and help make the the King sized bed look right at home.}
Baby room got a custom fix:
{In old NY apts the trim work and walls aren’t always in the best condition. In order to hide it a bit we built a padded cornice and then added some fretwork trim. It was stunning, but time consuming. All that fretwork equals lots of measuring and math skills!}
Gallery wall also went up:
{Sorry for the fuzzy picture. I used my Nikon D60, but it was dark and this was the best shot out of the bunch. 🙁 }
A great way to figure out spacing on your gallery wall is to mark an area on the floor with the same spacing and play around with the arrangement.
{Once you have the perfect layout make sure to take a picture so you remember what goes where.}
To figure out where to place our nails on the wall we started at the middle and worked our way out. Before hanging a new frame we would flip it over and measure from the bottom of you gallery wall border to where the hook was.
Now all you need to do is measuring that same distance from the actual gallery wall border, hammer in the nail, and hang frame.
Super easy and fast.
What were up to this weekend?
P.S. My mom and sister are vacationing in Cape Town, South Africa this week. Anyone ever been? Is there is a must have item that I need to tell them to pretty please find for me and bring home? Don’t worry baby elephant is already on the list. 🙂
Hi, I love your blog and I am one of those unnerving silent readers that hardly leave any commentary. I’m sorry; most of them the time, I simply have nothing to add…until today. I’m really excited that your family is in South Africa–where I’m from!! There are too many things to bring back from faux Zebra hide, woven flat baskets (similar to but much better than the ones sold by West Elm), and lots of art. You really can’t go wrong with Cape artwork; it is the epitome of Cape Town: sophisticated, breathtaking, and with grounded sense of Africa. Anyway, your work is fabulous and what’s up with Americans wanting baby elephants? That’s what my (New York born and raised) husband wants as well 🙂
Ha ha too funny. Love that your NY hubby wants an elephant as well. Since you’ve been reading my blog you know I have quite the love for elephants. They are all over my house. They are just little good luck charms for me.
I really wanted some artwork. Hopefully Mom and sissy know what I would like. They have been in South Africa since the 16th and will be coming home by the end of the week. They have had a ball. Totally jealous.
What are the two patterned fabrics on the pillows that you used? They look like one of them could be perfect for some curtains I want to make…. Thanks! I love your blog and look forward to your posts!! : )

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
