Today’s IN HER SHOES post is one of my favorites. You see my pal Abbe is totally living the dream. Not only does she work with clients by designing them jaw dropping spaces, but she is also a shop owner.
It doesn’t hurt that we have a similar design style so I practically put everything in my shopping cart when I go on Shop Ten 25. My dream has always been shop owner along with decorator so it’s nice to take a peek into my hopefully not too distant future.
Enjoy!

6:45AM- Wake up to the sound of Ivy whining in her kennel. I get up and let her and Caddo out of their kennels; they immediately jump on the bed. Ivy goes under the covers and Caddo starts passing out kisses. I try to fall back asleep but my “to-do” list for the day starts to run through my mind.
7:10AM- I Can’t get back asleep so I put on my fluffy house shoes and shuffle into the kitchen for coffee. Dru is still asleep but the girls are ready to eat and follow me into the kitchen. I lean on the counter and open the Google reader app to see what’s going on with my favorite bloggers. Wow 24 new blog posts, I will have to catch up on the rest of them later.
7:55AM – Morning coffee meeting with a new friend at Starbucks, yes that’s cup #2 this morning. She recently graduated from college and is ready to begin her career as a designer. I’m flattered that she wanted to pick my brain on what the next step in here career should be…and now I kind of feel old.
9:05AM- I run by the Arteriors Home warehouse here in Dallas to pick up a few lamps that were ordered on Shop Ten 25 (http://www.shopten25.com) (the shop is keeping me very busy these days). On my way to FedEx I pick up fabric for a client’s guest bedroom furniture, drop it off at the workroom and stop to fill up the car for a shocking total of $59.00…ugh. But, I pull up my Google reader while I’m waiting on the small fortune of gas to sloowwwly fill up the car.
12:30PM- Lunch meeting with local Dallas artist Christ Judy we get the typical soup, salad and bread-sticks at the Olive Garden. We discuss the current pieces that we are working on for my design clients as well as his latest commissioned piece for the Dallas Symphony. I take the custom prints he made for two clients and head over to the frame shop.
1:55PM- Pop into the frame shop and unroll the three prints I just picked up from Chris. Two of them are on canvas and need to be stretched before they are framed; Chris usually goes over the canvas prints with color and texture after they are stretched if the client doesn’t want the standard flat look. I decided to go with the warm lavender mat and chunky metallic frame from Larson Juhl for this one!
3:20PM- Stop by the Studio to see if there are any deliveries for the day. I have been waiting on a Robert Allen trim for a client’s drapes. Her windows are bare and we need to get the trim to the drapery workroom ASAP so they can have some privacy! My lucky day, a few other bolts of fabric arrived too.
3:50PM- I’m back in The Studio so I grab a quick snack (and another cup of coffee) from the kitchen and head into the office. Jump on the computer to answer emails, finish a few changes for a client’s living room floor plan and order fabric for another project online, I love technology!
5:02PM- The girls are getting restless and staring me down so I decide to stop for now and head to the dog park!
5:14PM- It’s a bit windy but at least the sun is out so the usually game of fetch goes on with Ivy while Caddo chases butterflies and stalks squirrels.
5:45PM- We’re back home and so is my hubby. He sits on the sofa watching golf and finishes up his day. Fetch wore Ivy out so she takes a nap while start dinner and get started on tomorrow’s blog post. It’s an easy one, Studio Ten 25 was featured in the latest issue of Laura U Mag and I’m really excited about it!
6:47PM- Dinner in the living room, I take the coffee table and sofa while Dru sits up at the bar. This is a typical evening at the Fenimore’s; the T.V. options are pitiful tonight so we click over to the 10+ saved episodes of The Office.
9:42PM- We head into the bedroom with our laptops and get ready to wind down for the night. Dru tries to sneak in more golf on T.V. but as soon as I finish with the laptop I say, “what cha watchin’?” It drives him nuts because that’s my way of staying “can we change the channel?” He finally falls asleep in time for me to watch Chelsea Lately before crashing for the night.
So that’s a day in my shoes! And I did it all wearing my favorite Ugg boots. I call them my Three’s Company boots because they look like something Chrissy Snow would have worn. They are also known around here as The Regal Beagle boots and they were perfect for this chilly spring day!

A big thanks to Abbe for participating. She is joining a great group of ladies!
P.S. : It finally seems like things are back in order with all of my accounts. Still working on a couple of things like twitter/ and old blog, but we are almost back to getting everything back to normal.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Arg! I am SO jealous over those boots. I spent the better part of my fall and winter trying to find them in my size and they were sold out everywhere. You lucky girl!
How fun to have a peek into her day!
The pups are sooo cute!
What a blessing to be able to spend your day doing what you love with the people you love!! I’m entering the world of self-employment this month and Abbe is one of my many inspirations!
