My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
Can’t wait to see pics of your Roaring 20s “getup”! And this is such an awesome surprise trip reveal! What a great hubby!
OH MY GOSH! What an awesome present from a very sweet husband!
I love this so much! Good work Jon!
Camila, that is absolutely hilarious! And what a wonderful surprise!!!
Ah how exciting! what a great present and cute way to give it to you. Happy belated bday- mine was actually yesterday too 🙂
Wow, great surprise! Je t’aime Paris!
You should check out the book Eat. Shop. Paris. It’s a great indy style guide to Paris including all the famous Parisian institutions, what to eat and drink in the restaurants they suggest, amazing little shops and patisseries to visit! I used it this winter on my visit and it was a great way to see the real Paris! The area of Sacre Coeur has many amazing fabric stores to check out!
Happy Birthday — what a wonderful present! 🙂

joyeux anniversaire!
I am super jealous! Take a ton of pictures!
How cute of Jon – he is a keeper! My 21 year old daughter just returned from a trip to Paris. She told me when shes gets a marriage proposal from her boyfriend – he better do it at the base of the Eiffel Tower at night when the lights are twinkling on it.
I hope you have a magical trip.
My best- Diane
HOW FUN! I wish someone would surprise me with a trip to Paris!! And I can’t wait to see your outfit from the party.
PS- I have the same Eiffel Tower bird house from Michaels (http://bontempsbeignet.blogspot.com/2011/02/uss-madison-has-gone-to-birds.html)
What an awesome surprise! We’re going in June which is right before the tourists overtake the city in July and August. We decided to go with an apartment rental through Haven in Paris – check out their blog. It was a better deal than staying at a hotel and it will be like we’re living there for a week. Can’t wait to hear all about the trip!
Anytime’s a good time for Paris! Spring and early Fall are my faves, but I also had an amazing NYE trip a few years back. Try to stay in the St. Germain de Pres! Have a boozy lunch at Le Comptoir, eat macarons at La Duree, and visit the Luxumbourg Gardens as often as possible!
happy belated birthday!!!! mine is on the 27th – May babies!!! .. and EKKKKK a surprise trip to Paris, don’t think get’s any better then that!
I’m new to your blog. Happy Birthday to you! What a wonderful birthday surprise and what fun you will have planning your trip. I look forward to following along and hearing all about it.
Cutest birthday surprise ever!! How exciting!! And Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! What a fabulous surprise. You will love Paris.
First time commenter….. long time lurker!! Love your blog!
We are going in late Sept! I’m in the process of planning our trip too. I’ll be checking this posts comments section freq!
Such a sweet gesture to put so much thought into the reveal. Happy birthday and have a blast planning for Paris!
How fun! Happy happy birthday.
Paris is fantastic and beautiful. All I remember is walking and loving every minute of it. I went in late May/early June a few years ago, and it was actually pretty cool outside. Can’t wait to hear your plans.
Oh my gosh! How sweet! I love it! And how exciting that you guys are going to PARIS! Best birthday present ever!
I hope your birthday was great!
xx
Happy Birthday Camila! What an AWESOME Birthday surprise! I’m so happy for you. You’ll have an amazing time and I can’t wait to see what kind of recaps you share!
That is the cutest idea I’ve ever seen! You’re going to have so much fun – make sure you do the Fat Fire Bike Tour and make friends with the guides. They’ll take you to fun bars afterwards!
We stayed in a great apt. Right next to the Sephora store 200yards from the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-élysées. It is honestly so convenient to the metro. I loved it. We found it on booking.com. Have a great trip. Paris is lovely.
How awesome. The fall is the best or at Christmas. We love staying in St. Germain De Pris area! Sofitel hotels are nice {thanks to hubby’s work we can stay there or we would be at Best Western :)}
Must visit Versailles!
FANTASTIC gift!!!
I have heard that fall or spring is the best time to visit!! I’m going with my family while my husband has a conference at the end of June/beginning of July and I am SO excited even though I know it will be crowded. Now, if only I can find a way to leave my kids with my husband for a few hours on the weekend so I can hit the legendary flea markets :)! I’m sure you will have an amazing time!
Just another note; we did it b/c of the kids, but we found that renting an apartment could be done for the same price as a hotel. So, depending on your interest/budget, if you think it would be fun to have a little kitchen and “live” in a fun neighborhood while you’re there, we had great luck with airbnb.com and vrbo.com.
We’ve rented 2 apts in Paris- the first one for 2 months, Jan & Feb. It was located in the 6th arrondisement-my favortite area. The second for a week in Sept and it was located on Ile St Louis, which is elegant and quiet but felt a little too staid. Get to know the arr.. Stay along the river in 1-8. Our favorite thing in Paris is the open-air markets for food and everything else. Dining out is expensive. Buy a Michelin Red Guide and try to find some Bib Gourmande restaurants. It’s hard to get a bad meal in Paris. We found both apartments thru vrbo.
The fabric & trim shops (prepare to be blown away) are in the St Pierre Mkt area of the 13th, at the foot of Montmartre.. We took a subway.
Les Puces are in St Ouen, another subway or bus ride and a hefty walk.. Sketchy neighborhood so go early in the morning. Avoid the street stalls and go directly to the markets. Some are inside buildings, some are little shops off tiny alleys.
Politeness is very important to the French. ALWAYS greet the salesperson or waiter with Bonjour Madame or Monsieur before you ask for anything. Speak quietly in restaurants. They think Americans are very loud. Do NOT wear white sneakers anywhere. Do not smile at people on the street . Wear black. 😉 and have a wonderful trip.
love love love the reveal and the gift! I stayed with my sister when I went, so no advice on hotels. Just make sure to enjoy the street vendors. Especially the crepes.
Happy belated birthday, Camila! I turned 30 in March and totally relate to all of your feelings. I think you have loads of success and happiness in store for you this decade.
-Naomi
OMG, best present ever! Jon is the best!!!!!!
Ok, off to make my shopping list for you- as in, my shopping list of things I want from Paris while you are there 🙂
