This weeks IN HER SHOES feature is a friend I made through twitter. While I am still getting the hang of twitter and at times forget to tweet for days at a time. Julie from Create Girland Jace Interiorsis the queen of twitter. We have also been to meet in person a handful of times since she is nearby in Boston and comes to NY frequently for events.
Enjoy a day in her life!

Wake up at 4am because I realize I forgot to send “this or that email”! Write it down on a Post It next to my bed and fall back to sleep.
6:45 One of my favorite parts of recently moving in with the fiancé is just before he leaves for work he comes back into the bedroom opens all the shades and says kick ass today! Waking up to natural sunlight and his voice of confidence is the perfect way to start my day.
7:00 I am downstairs with my tea in hand, the news on in the background and laptop opened! I say Good Morning to my Twitter friends, read emails and try to come up with a blog post idea. To be honest if I don’t find an image for the post quickly I tend not to force it and move on.
8:30 I shimmy into my office to create my to do list of course I have forgotten what was on the 4am Post It and run upstairs to get it! I am old school and still use a Composition Book and pen to keep track of my lists and notes.
9:00 Jump in the shower and curse the hair gods as I struggle to straighten my curly hair!
10:00 I am off to meet my first client of the day. Today I have a “Design Session” with a past client. We have been working through her house for the past 3 years and are now onto the kitchen. It is a great brainstorming session and after years of working together it comes easy! I can’t stress how wonderful it is when you truly enjoy working with a homeowner, it is a high unlike any other when you have the same vision for a space!
12:00 Interview a new Drapery Workroom who I have heard great things about and am ecstatic it seems like it will be a great fit! Phew!
12:45 I decide to pop into a clients around the corner to see if the wallpaper is up in their master bedroom. No luck, but the gray paint above looks great! Make a note to call the vendor about delivery date.
1:00 Next is a chaotic schedule of what I call “in and out”. I can fly through a store and in a matter of minutes know if they have what I need. First I head over to the tile showroom to gather samples, than I pop into Homegoods to see what is new. This chair looks just like the Leonardo from Room and Board which delights me immensely! At $199 it is the perfect solution for a client’s vanity! Now I am really on a high, there is nothing like scoring a deal in the middle of the day!
2:30 Luckily Mitchell Gold is nearby, I stop in quickly to take a run through their new items. My iPhone is always in my hand as I scout so I can take tag pictures of items I might consider, it’s quicker than finding a pen in the “Life Bag”!
2:50 I head over to the Boston Design Center to pick up fabric samples when of course I get distracted by the window displays like this one from Duralee! Fabulous! OK back to focusing on what I am here for, fabric for custom pillows! I also remember I have completely forgotten to eat lunch and make due with a tea, apple and an oatmeal raisin cookie this will also lead me to remember how I have made no time to work out today…yea I guess something has to give!
4:30 Back in my office I respond to emails, RT’s and make notes of all the items I found today.
5:00 Tonight I am relieved to know I don’t have any tweetchats or events to be at. This means I can finally spend some time focusing on the marketing side of the business. I am putting together 5 tips for a local magazine on how to use the pieces you own to create an entirely new room! This is the fun part as I love sharing simple, inexpensive ideas on creating a fresh new space.
7:00 The boy comes home which means it is time for me to take a break and have a quick dinner with him. I am learning to use this time wisely and be completely present (not half in the office…this is new to me after years of living alone)! Though I don’t escape interior talk all together as I just have to show him a floor plan I came across yesterday for our addition!
9:00 Take the laptop into the living room and while he is watching the game I come up with a few ideas for the next @Studio140Boston tweetup. This is an event I started to bring together local designers, writers, photographers and vendors.
9:15 Of course I get distracted and start looking up wedding dresses and invitation designs on Pinterest! I promise myself tomorrow I will get back to Tweetup ideas tomorrow but for now this is much more fun!
10:30 Up to bed where there are no signs of work! Instead I dive back into my guilty pleasure read of Rob Lowe’s new book.
11:00 Take a minute to be thankful for the things I have including a thriving company and turn the lights. It all starts again…usually with a Post It note at 4am!

A big thanks to Julie for sharing her day with us. It reminds me a lot of my days. Notebook and all to keep all of my notes together.
Hope you all enjoy your weekend! I hope to get a little sun and finish up some projects!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
