My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
The eclectic room is one of my all time favourites- adore adore it. Also love love the chinoiserie space.
I’m a fan of the Serene with pops of color. So comforting. My daughter’s room which is now my son’s room is the only one that has not been re-painted in our home. We got it right the first time. It makes me happy every time I walk in there.
Congratulations!!!!
First of all, CONGRATS to you and John! What a wonderful journey for the two of you. Secondly, I like the eclectic one. Also, is it weird that I already have the giant giraffe head? 🙂

Whichever one you choose, you CANNOT go wrong! You’ve got rockin’ style (get it, as in baby rocking?)
Anyway.
I always liked the idea of decorating gender neutral- which is super easy with the eclectic vibe- my personal favorite. That worldly/eclectic nursery definitley screams ” Yeah, I’m training to be a super cool person. Cooler than you.”
Neutral with pops of color (aka, a lot of white + bleach= easy cleanup) could totally work and look lovely also. Easy to update, too- in case you get sick of your theme.
Can’t wait to see what you do!

Love the serene with pops of color as well. Sending you wishes of happiness and blessings as you begin this magical journey! xoxo michele
Chinoiserie Chic gets my vote…and Glam comes in second!
I’m a fan of traditional w/ a twist and eclectic (although that painting over the dresser is what nightmares are made of!). Whichever style you choose, my big advice for nurseries is to include decor that doubles as education, whether it’s fun alphabet cards or something involving numbers or animals. Contrasting colors are particularly noticeable to infants, so pale pastels might be pretty to you but won’t be interesting to the baby.
As for blogs, I love Chic & Cheap Nursery. Fun and practical tips, and great inspiration.
What amazing news! Congratulations to you and yours! I’m truly thrilled for you and Jon! You two are going to be fabulous parents! How lucky for this little baby to come into the world so wanted and so loved…the ultimate gift a child is given. The room…go for whatever makes your heart tick!
I love the electric nursery image. Its been saved in my inspiration file for a while now. I love that it doesn’t scream BABY and can easily transition into growing child/family.
Congrats, BTW! The eclectic room is my favorite, but I’m sure once you find out if it’s a boy or girl it will be so much easier to find a direction. The glam would be pretty spectacular for a baby girl. Check out Spearmint Baby and OhDeeDoh for nursery inspiration!
Congratulations! I love serene with pops of color. I’m due Dec. 3 and find out the gender in a couple of weeks as well! I can hardly wait to get decorating!
lay baby lay is a WONDERFUL baby nursery blog! It’s my favorite, and she makes amazing idea design boards!
I love the first one!
I love the Glam & the eclectic – I feel like those could both easily transition to an older kids room – as far as that chinoiserie – I’d LOVE that in MY room please!! Congrats on the baby! I can’t wait to see future nursery posts! – BOO
I like the last three the best! They are just beautiful but still fun.
And I couldn’t, for whatever reason, leave a comment yesterday. I am so so happy for you guys. I could tell it was an ache for you through some of your posts and was hoping that was what the big news was. Not that anything can ever replace the loss of a baby, but this is just such happy news. Enjoy it.
First of all congrats on the baby news, that is so exciting and I know how hard it is to be trying to get pregnant, it truely is all in God’s hands. Being a mom is the best thing ever you have so much to look forward too. I absolutely adore the glam nursery. I have a little boy but I would rock that zebra rug for sure!
I vote for “eclectic” and “pops of color” somehow they both seem most like YOU.
I also vote for weekly updates – fun.
These are all great! Particularly loving the Sarah Richardson one!
I have a Pinterest board where I post cute nurseries and kid rooms I come across. You can check it out here: http://pinterest.com/ariannabelle/little-ones/
Congratulations!! love the pictures y’all did and i like the eclectic nursery. that way you can use a little of all styles!
CONGRATS!!!!! Once you find out the sex it will be easier to narrow down what style you want. The last one is amazing – love it!
congrats!! have you seen audrey’s nursery on http://www.jonesdesigncompany.com? emily did such a wonderful job with it. i wish MY room looked that good! i too, have a pinterest board with nursery inspirations if you are so inclined.
I love #2, eclectic. The gray walls and the colorful carpet. Yum.
Congratulations and enjoy planning and making your nursery.
Congratulations!! Doing a nursery is fun, kinda wish mine was still a baby. They are much easier when all they do is eat, sleep and poop!
Congratulations!! I’m a pretty new reader to your blog but I absolutely love it already, I get so excited to see when you have a new post. (btw, I bought that beautiful, bright flower rug you mentioned from overstock, it’s perfect for my playroom & I’ve gotten so many compliments on it already!)
If you have some time pop on by my blog, it’s mostly mommy/baby related with plenty of DIY goodies. (although my tutorials page is still a work in progress since I switched to my own url) You can check out my polka dot nursery here… http://www.littlepinkmonster.com/2011/02/07/polka-dot-nursery/
Congrats again & welcome to mommyhood!!
Such pretty inspiration – I’m all for the serene with pops of color!!
Congratulations!! I am in the middle of designing a nursery myself (chronicling the journey here: http://www.fatbelliedgirl.com/search/label/Nursery%20ideas) so I would definitely welcome a weekly post on all things baby-related! The eclectic room above has been my inspiration so far – we’re having a boy, so trying to keep it on the “masculine” side. Best of luck with everything!
Aw I missed your news yesterday! Congrats! I just gave birth to my second son, children are a wonderful blessing. So happy for you and John. The style of the nursery will come to you; remember it is a room you will spend more time in/remember more than anyone else, so make sure it is comfortable and easy to navigate in the dark 🙂 Congrats again!
First congratulations on your little one! How exciting and I bet you are counting down the weeks! And I am so impressed you managed to blog through the first trimester and that extreme tiredness. You are better woman than I!
I don’t have an answer to which style to lean towards because I am right there with you….difference being I am only two weeks away from delivery and while the nursery is 90% done, I am still questioning my choices. My issue is that I like too many styles and love looking at inspiration pictures. So even though I am loving how it is turning out, every time I look at it I think things like “maybe I should have been more eclectic in my decor choices” or “maybe I should have painted the wall a more neutral color” or “maybe there is too much stuff in here and is looking more traditional.” Anxiety-provoking. But I just keep telling myself that it can’t be every style I love, it just has to be something I love spending time in. Good luck with your decision and I am sure it will turn out amazing like everything else you do!
There are so many fabulous fun nurseries here! I love the eclectic one!
Megan
Congratulations. I like several of the rooms. But I wanted to have think about the safety issues involved in roman shades. Motorized shades have fewer exposed cords, but are also more expensive. Pull shades are safer and many fun designs and colors.
I just read your big announcement and I had tears in MY eyes! What a beautiful way to spread the big news. I can tell you are both so excited and this baby will have so much love–and style, of course. 😉
Like you said–each of these styles are beautiful so you really can’t go wrong. I think once you decide how you want to feel in the room you’ll be able to pick the style. Have fun!!
Abby
Well, I guess I better choose the glam nursery, since it my daughter’s room, lol =) I am so excited for you to get to design your own nursery and can’t wait to see how you put it together! I have design ADD so I also like many of the nurseries you posted besides my own. The serene with the pops of color would be my next choice- so fresh! I appreciate the eclectic but as much as I admire in others homes, it just isn’t my everyday, but so chic!! Have a ball! xoxo shelli
So much fun designs to look at! Congratulations and please take it easy! XOXO
Congratulations on the baby news! I vote for Chinoisiere chic for a girl.
Cheers,
Claudia
