Today’s IN HER SHOES featured lady really needs no introduction. Throughout the blog community we all adore her Southern charm and her amazing design style. I would feel right at home in any of the rooms she and her team have designed. She is wonder woman in my eyes by not only having a degree in Interior Design, but her Masters in Business, taking on local and long distance clients, being a speaker at Interior Design events throughout the US, running a design camp and being a wonderful wife and mom. Amazing! Enjoy a day in the life of Tobi Fairley
6:00am My iPod alarm starts ringing in on my bedside table. To snooze or not to snooze…that is the question. No snoozing today. It’s time to start another exciting day of design and mommy-hood! I drag myself, still mostly asleep, down to the living room onto my yoga mat and spend 15-20 minutes in meditation and an attitude of gratitude to start off on the right foot.
6:20 And speaking of the right foot, I push both the right and the left into my comfy running shoes, grab the ipod and jump on my treadmill for 45 minutes of walking and listening to my latest favorite book on tape. It’s typically a business book or better yet a self-help. Right now I’m listening to Dr. Wayne Dyer’s Excuses be Gone for the 3rd time this year.
7:05 Time to wake the sleeping princess that made her way into our bed at some point in the night. Since it’s summer time, she gets an extra 30 minutes of shut-eye. which means more quiet time for me before the hustle and bustle begins. Into the shower we both go so we can dress and get ready for a healthy breakfast.
7:45 Dressed for the day, it’s time to get some protein in our tummies. Scrambled eggs, bacon and biscuits for the little one and daddy. But for me an omlette with a side of Campari Tomatoes keeps my energy up for the busy day ahead.
8:15 Back up stairs to brush the teeth and put on a pair of sensible shoes. These pink Kate Spades are just the perfect amount of style (and flat) so I can manage a client installation this afternoon!
8:20 Don’t forget to pack the mini-me a lunch in her favorite Justice lunchbox. Grab her matching backpack and we are out the door.
8:40 After dropping my petite designer off at her summer camp, it’s time for a mommy treat! My daily Starbuck’s soy latte will do the trick.
9:00 Now to my pretty pink office to start sorting through the plethora of emails I received just since last night. At least I get to gaze on my favorite Alice Andrew’s painting while answering the many important messages.
10:00 Enough emails for now, it’s time for a bit of design. Into the workroom I go to wrap up a few loose ends on client projects, make a couple of design re-selections for back-ordered and discontinued items, and see what new vendor catalogs have arrived that might give me the perfect inspiration for our new project.
11:30 Meet with my photographer to review the latest photos of my new fabric line. Can we finally get our e-commerce site up and running in August? Chances are looking pretty good.
12:00 A salad for lunch and a bunch of sparkling water. I alternate it all day, every day with the plain bottled kind, to keep me hydrated and feeling re-freshed!
1:00 Meeting with a design team member to review an upcoming DIY segment for my monthly local ABC television spot. I can’t wait to reveal these GORGEOUS end tables with fretwork detail. My viewers are going to love them.
1:30 A one-room client installation with my team. The preppy playroom is getting a bit of “wow” with these FLOR carpet tiles. How many designers does it take to figure out the pattern? Well apparently for us, four. 🙂
4:00 It’s almost happy hour and the install is all done. Just enough time for a quick chat with my editor friend at Southern Living Magazine to discuss the possibilty of an upcoming feature. Crossing my fingers that it all works out.
4:45 This rug rat has had a long day of Summer camp and needs to burn off some energy. Meeting daddy at our Country Club pool is the perfect outlet for that. Nothing like a little quality time (and a cocktail) to start winding down.
6:30 Tuckered out from our fun in the sun, it’s time to whip up an easy meal so we can get ready for bed. My hubby starts the grill so he can throw on some steaks.
6:45 I love to cook and tonight my job is to make the sides. It’s roasted cauliflower and a side of long-grain brown rice, I decide. 45 minutes each and supper will be done.
8:15 Reading hour begins. First. bedtime stories for the 6 year old. Her preference? Fancy Nancy and Pinkalicious. Since first grade starts in just 2 weeks, we are brushing up on her reading skills. 30 minutes later she is ready for lights out and now I squeeze in a little Kindle for iPad time for me. I’m finally reading Water for Elephants. Better late than never right?
9:30 I like to end my day like I begin it, with an attitude of gratitude. Writing a few thank-you notes on my new Pixel Impress Stationery will be a perfect end to a productive day.
10:00 Now it’s time to slip my tired feet into my fuzzy Palm Tree slippers and start visualizing that beach vacation I hope to squeeze in before Fall. Since I can’t keep my eyes open a moment longer, I’ll take my thoughts of sandy beaches to bed with me, so I can get up again tomorrow at 6:00am and start this whole thing over again. Life is Good!

A big thank you to Tobi! She was a really trooper yesterday being at an install yesterday that was 4 hours away and still having time to send this over to me.
*Sorry for the delayed posting today. My mom had a little kidney stone scare yesterday so I’ve been dealing with the ER, CAT SCANS, X-RAYS, and Doctor’s appointment today. Poor Mom.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
