Today’s featured lady has the dream life. She lives in sunny California with her kids and husband and is not only an interior designer, but a shop owner as well. Her stunning work has been featured in numerous magazines and now she can add book author to her resume as well.
One of my favorite rooms that Brooke has designed:
One of the most envious parts of Brooke’s life is that she gets to work with her husband, Steve on design projects. You see Steve is a talented architect and artist and it was his work that lead to Brooke’s initial introduction to design. The perfect pair!
Enjoy a day in the life of Brooke from Velvet & Linen.

Thank you Camila, for including me in your “In Her Shoes” feature! I hope I don’t scare your readers with my hectic life…
As always, my day started early at 5:30 a.m.
Steve and I were out the door by 6:00 for a walk with the pups.
When we got back home, it was time to take a quick shower and tend to the chickens…
The hens love fresh vegetables and fruit from our kitchen garden. Today, I tied some romaine lettuce onto the tree for a chicken treat.
After making breakfast, I drove Leila to tennis camp at 8:30. The boys came me to the shop today to help with the photo shoot for our One Kings Lane Tastemaker tag sale on September 12th.
Charlie, my typical teenage son, posing for the photo with his friend Rebecca, our summer intern…
The boys definitely earned their lunch today!
At 11:00, we also started working on the 30 press boxes for our new book, Patina Style. We covered the boxes with one of Steve’s drawings from the book…
Inside each box, we placed a copy of Patina Style next to a giclee of one of Steve’s “Water Series” paintings and a personal note to the editor or buyer.
There wasn’t much time for lunch because we had an appointment at my clients’ house at 1:00 to install their new headboard.
We are still in the beginning stages of the bedroom design. We’ve replaced the chandelier, purchased new bedding, and installed new decorative heat registers. Soon to come: new bedside tables, lamps, a few decorative pillows for color, a new rug, and one of our Courtney sofas.
at 3:00 I picked up Leila from tennis camp, dropped her off at a friend’s house for a play date and went back to the office to finish with the photo shoot.
At 4:30 Steve and I went to one of his clients’ houses. Steve’s clients are selling their house, and Steve had an appointment with a potential buyer to discuss the option of doing an addition to the house.
While Steve was in his meeting, I took a little walk around. The tile on the kitchen island was one of my favorite details.
I loved Steve’s design for the sink cabinets in the master bathroom.
The floor in the master bathroom shower is covered in the same gorgeous tile as the kitchen island.
After the meeting, Steve and I drove across town to the Hollywood Bowl for a Gavin Degraw, Train, and Maroon 5 concert. Yes, we were in the nose bleed section…
Our feet were tired, but happy.
I hope you enjoyed spending the day in my shoes!
Thank you again Camila!

What a lovely day! I’ve been itching for a return trip to California and Brooke is making me want a trip even more. Wouldn’t it be amazing to follow Brooke in real life for a day?!
Hope you all have a great weekend. If you want to check out more IN HER SHOES features click here!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]

I would love to know who makes (and where to buy)the spotted dog fabric pictured on chairs pulled up to the kitchen island in the house of one of Steve’s clients shown in your In Her Shoes feature on Brooke Giannetti. Love it ! Thanks in advance for your help.
