My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
You could also get that look for about $10 from your local thrift store. I’ve seen a ton of brass lamps with that shape. Just spray paint them black! 🙂 I have a pair that I got that I spray painted silver. Originally…I had planned on gloss black, but then our friend gave us their entire livingroom suite and the end tables are dark expresso brown. So the black would have been swallowed up by the dark table. But I tend to get bored easily and I’m redesigning when we move to our new house. So the lamps will probably be painted gloss white…or a pretty aged turquoise…:)
Totally agree Dawn. Thrift store lamps are the way to go when trying to recreate this look as well. My only problem with spraypainting lamps is that I always get some sort of cracking happening. It’s not a huge deal, but sometimes it can get better bad. My new thing has been to use Rub’nBuff they have a pretty patina finish that would be good for the aged turquoise look you are going for. 🙂
Yeah, I had that happen with my bedroom one. However…I used a 3M sponge sander on these lamps and wiped them with a tack cloth to get the oils from my hands and dirt from the lamp. Didn’t have to sand too hard…just enough to scuff it. Then I used a Rustoleum spray…which seemed to work better than the Krylon (in my opinion). Even the Man was surprised because he said “You can’t paint brass”…LOL. They look perfect. And now I have a base for any other paint color I want…:)
How I love when a good deal with the similar syle is found, definitely would go for the $82.00 one, I cannot imaging justifying the other.. yikes! Trip to NYC with that price.
SO I had to come over as I was at Chassity’s blog and saw your comment about your husband thinking the art piece was scary and couldn’t help but laugh,, hahha yes men I have the same issue in my home, and even if I put most of them up they truly are over feminizing the house. LOL..
Have a wonderful weekend darling and head over to my blog, giving a way an Original yikes, spur of the moment thing to take advantage of. 😉

LUV the “creative do it” attitudes!!!! This little light of mine…. franki
I love how you always showcase great design for the more affordable budget. I love mixing high end with low end, and infusing it with great style. On another note, we need to meet this fall…it has been long overdue! Once you have your little baby, time will be limited. XOXO.
