I love to read so when it came to planning the nursery I really wanted to incorporate an area for books.
Now our nursery is on the small space so in order to get the storage space I wanted for books I needed to think vertical and find an opening on one of the walls. We have a window nook that was looking a bit empty so that made finding a hanging area quick easy.
Now it would have been simply to just pick up some picture ledges at IKEA or go the DIY rain gutter route, but I wanted to a little something special to the space and get a dose of lucite into the nursery.
The container store had some lucite/acrylic shelving options:
But they didn’t have a lip on them to hold the books into place and were $19.99 a shelf, which wasn’t going to break the bank, but I wanted something a bit more budget friendly.
Can’t wait to order them. All of the little pieces of the nursery are finally coming together. A lot of my items were on backorder till the beginning of December so it’s been great to see everything start arriving. Can’t wait for the biggest accessory to arrive. 38 weeks this week and I’m feeling it!
I love love love this idea! May totally copy it. I am at 33 weeks today, with still lots on order. I don’t plan on fully converting the nursery/ 9′ x 11′ room until after Christmas. One advantage to small space baby rooms is that you don’t get more than you need…
How have you found these to hold up over time? I’m wondering if they are strong enough to hold up to 3’s & 4’s rough housing? (for my sunday school kiddos, some of whom can be pretty boisterous)

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Love the lucite shelves! I especially love them in a child’s room where the bookcover artwork is so engaging. Can’t wait to see yours up.
