Ok kids it’s time to get into the goodness of Dixie Highway. While we were in Florida last week I made sure that one day had to include a visit to West Palm Beach. So, last Wednesday we hit the road and made a trip to Dixie Highway heaven!
My first stop was just off Dixie Highway at Circa Who. According to my google search on my iphone the store was only opened from 10-4 are Wednesday so we were hustling to make it there on time. We had run late at lunch and then hit a bunch of travel and detours on the way to West Palm Beach so Jon was really embracing his Indy Car Driver self to get me there on time. We finally rounded the corner and I saw the iconic orange and white striped awning. Yay, right? Wrong!
Guess what we saw after the awning?
That’s right a big old CLOSED sign. My eyes literally teared up. Apparently they are only open 10-4 on Friday and Saturdays and every other day it’s only appointment only. Poor Jon tried ringing away to see if anyone was around to let me in, but it didn’t happen.
At least I was able to peek through the windows:
So sad! I had to quickly turn my frown upside down, because we wanted to hit a bunch of other stores and on the Dixie Highway stores tend to close between 5-6pm.
Next stop was the Animal Rescue Thrift Store:
There wasn’t a lot of action going on in this store, but I could see a couple of West Palm Beach inspired items in the store and ended up coming home with a sweet little elephant sconce for only $4!
{Should I paint it or leave it as is?}
Next on the list was the Nearly New Shop:
They didn’t have much in the home accessory area, but they did have a nice selection of furniture pieces.
This armoire had me at hello!
{ Bamboo detailing plus caning!}
{Elephant detailing & a $240 price tag that was an extra 50% off at the register.}
So sad to leave this piece behind.
Next was a stop at Southend Estate Sales:
This place was extremely messy and nothing is priced and the there is only the owner there who was on the phone the entire time I was there so it was hard to find out pricing.
We left empty handed, but Jon actually went back in and finally got the owners attention and walked away with my favorite vintage fabric find:
My favorite stop had to be Nettie’s Consignment:
Nettie is a sweetheart who totally fell in love with Hudson and loves absolutely everything in store. Her store is filled from the floor to the ceiling and I pretty much wanted something every couple of steps I took in the store.
{Totally regretting leaving these behind. The frames were in perfect condition and I loved the bold green grasscloth matting.}
They even have a massive outdoor area:
We finished off our trip with a stop at Goodwill and The Lord’s Place Thrift Store. Both were a total bust in my eyes. Goodwill was massive with a large clothing and home accessory area, but the home goods were over priced and seemed like a lot of current items no vintage treasures. The Lord’s Place had good pricing, but looks like it’s one of those hit or miss places and when we were there it was a miss.
All in all it was a good trip. There were many more stores, but the majority of them were designer antique shops, which pretty much equals expensive.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Yeah, West Palm has a lot of amazing thrift/vintage stores. In fact, all of South Florida does, but in West Palm, they are near each other, which is so handy!
LOVE. As for the elephant, I’d maybe rub some paint into it but leave it alone otherwise. It’s fantastic!
How did you leave that elephant armoire behind???? OMG I want to drive down there right now and get it!
Oh my goodness, I need that armoire! I cannot believe that price.
Is that Paule Marrot fabric?! Methinks it is!! SCORE!!!!!!!
HI!! So SAD that we missed you:( I decided to take time off this summer and spend it with my two girls:) Let me know when you are back in South Florida:)
