You did what? Electrical tape striped wall
I’m loving my new series, You did what? It’s been fun to search the web and find unique ways that people have tackled DIY projects.
It made me realize that I never shared my favorite unique DIY project. It’s from a couple of years ago, but it’s still a favorite of mine.
My sister had moved into an apartment and I was asked to inject a bit of personality into the space. Of course since it was a rental we couldn’t do any paint so I needed to be creative. I wanted something bold and decided stripes were the way to get the look I wanted.
No paint? No problem? I used 2″ wide electrical tape instead. I tested out the tape in a couple of different wall surfaces and found that it didn’t do any damage.

Removal is not an issue on older plaster walls. We did find that on newer walls it’s best to use a hair dryer on the tape during removal in order to get the adhesive a bit sticky and ease with the removal for a clean finish.

Black and white walls not your cup of tea? Don’t worry you can find metallic tape here. I’ve never used the metallic tape so I’m not sure how easily it would come off the wall.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Shut the front door! Fabulous. I’ve done a post on other tapes since they are now coming in so many different colors but haven’t found anyone who had it on long enough to experience a problem removing.
Absolutely LOVE this idea! Always used electrical tape for my Irish dance shoes, but I never would have thought to put it on a wall. So smart!
