This weekend started out with a little window shopping while I helped my sister run some errands at the mall.
How fun are these sparkly bow heels. Only $89.95!
Don’t they remind you of these Kate Spade Charm slingbacks?
I also had to run some of my own errands with my main side kick:
We picked up some fabrics for a color palette we working on:
{We were a bit inspired by all of the pastel shades that have been popping up in fashion.Oh course I had to add a bold poppy/coral red.}
I also saw a lot of this:
Hudson hates to hold my hand so it’s a lot of him running ahead of me and me chasing after him.
We also worked on some work projects due to the nice weather we were having and then decided to go out on a double date later that evening.
In high school I remember hearing that I a bunch of people would hang out at this coffee shop called Witches Brew. I never went in H.S. and then after H.S. I felt lame going because I figured I would be the oldest person there. So long story longer I had never gone to it.
Well I guess as I now 31 year old I didn’t care If I was going to be the oldest person amongst a sea of teenagers so we went and lounged in their cool vintage couches and had some yummy treats.
{P.S. I was not the oldest person there at all by a long shot. 🙂 }
Then on Sunday morning I went to drop off a rug at my parents house. I’ve been working on updating their master bedroom since Christmas and I think we have made some good strides. My parents having a matching set of furniture! I know shocking and such a no-no in the design world, but I think many people have them. So I’ve been trying to add different elements to break things up a bit. The latest addition was the rug. People have mixed views on a rug onto of a carpet, but I think depending on the situation it can work and in this situation it works. They have a massive room and the room helps make the bed are a focal point and add some color/pattern to the typical beige wall to wall carpeting.
The rest of my day was spend helping my sister with a photoshoot. She is starting an editing business so we did a couple of different styled desk set ups for the different packages she offers.
Here is what we did for the package geared to small business owners:
I did manage to sneak out of the house for a little in the early evening to catch the 50% sale at a local thrift store where I picked up a handful of lamps and chair for $25! Here is my favorite lamp:
What were you up to this weekend?
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Your parents’ bedroom is looking great!
Love that rug- I just ordered the same one for my living room. I just wrote about it here- http://theglitterfiles1.blogspot.com/2013/01/look-what-arrived.html
Are you in Nassau County, LI? If so, I just moved to the area about 5 months ago and recognized The Witches Brew as a coffee shop that I used to go to when I visited my Grandma who lived in Nassau County when I was growing up. I’m a big fan of your blog BTW!
Hi Deirdre,
I am in Nassau County! Witches Brew is a couple of towns over. We so need to meet up!

I would love to. I have a 22-month-old son and a 3-year-old daughter so maybe a playdate of sorts? I’m involved with a few meetup Mommy groups in the area and we go to fun places like Le Play Cafe, Barnes & Noble story time and even a few outings just for the moms. I adore your style, so when we get the chance to meet I may have to pick your brain! Feel free to email me anytime.
Wow! Witches Brew! I spent many nights there in high school and college breaks lamenting over boyfriends/design school….one of many great memories growing up on LI. Now I’m 40 miles north in Westchester but I enjoy when you share your spots around LI- makes me a little homesick:) even though I visit often!!
Thanks for sharing!
