I’m typically a very organized person, but I must admit that I have a dirty little secret and it’s my under the sink cabinet. A little bit of everything is stuffed under there and since Hudson now likes to open cabinets and there are safety locks on everything I get in and out of them as quickly as possible. If I leave the doors open too long my little helper starts to grab everything.
This past weekend I decided to tackle the madness and get organized. Here are the quick steps I took to get it in order.
{ I hadn’t realized how many things had gathered under the sink. There were lots of almost finished cleaner bottles and even some empty boxes!}
{Since I had some left over outdoor fabric in my stash I trimmed a piece to size and added it as a protective layer}
{ I then added some baskets for storage, a recycling bin and a cupboard shelf to take advantage of the vertical space I had.}
{ I didn’t have a label maker so I just used washi tape and a sharpie to note what was in each basket.}
{ Then I added in all of my supplies. On the left hand size I placed my trays, a fold up stool, recycling bin and gloves. In the middle I had a high bin/basket with all of my swiffer bottles/pads and then low bin/basket held my everyday cleaners, on the right hand side I placed cleaners that I don’t use everyday like silver polish and extra filters for the water purifier on top. In the bottom level I placed all of my vases and floral foam. Extras like sponges, brushes and dish towels got sprinkled throughout. }
Now everything has a home and I feel like a weight has been lifted off of me.
Here are my must haves for an organized under the sink cabinet:
No.1: A cupboard shelf comes in a lot of sizes and is relatively inexpensive. It helped me utilize the the unused vertical space I had.
No.2: Having to spend lots of $$$ on organization items can be boring! Wouldn’t you rather spend the $ on a pretty pair of shoes. I know I would. So, I always head to Dollar Tree first to see what they have in baskets. They had a lot to pick from this week and I ended up with two of these and a low and high storage tub.
No.3: I’m short so to reach the cabinets above the refrigerator I need some help. This folding stool is teeny tiny.
No.4: I try to recycle as much as I can and lately I’ve just been placing all of my recyclables in a paper bag that hangs on the door knob to my office. Classy. I hate it. When I spied this bin for only $20I picked it right away.
No.5: Cleaning products. Typically I have some sort of all purpose cleaner, a glass cleaner, carpet cleaner, drano, wood cleaner, air freshener, dish soap, hand soap, dishwasher soap and my swiffer wet jet cleaner. Currently brand wise I have a mix of items, but I would love to have everything by Method*. They are currently running a give-away on their facebook page were 5 lucky winners will get a beautiful Orla Kiely bag filled with product ($230 value). Simply like their facebook page in order to get to the give-away entry.
No.6: In order to try and be more green I’ve been trying to cut back on my use of paper towels. Not an easy feat with Hudson and two dogs who are constantly making messes. I bunches of dish towels at the Dollar Tree too!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
I need to do this. Last weekend I went on the beginnings of a spring cleaning spree. I bought my first Method cleaner at Target (the bathroom cleaner, which smells so nice!). I also bought these reed diffusers from there called “Give Love” – they have such great typography and smell amazing. It’s crazy how something so small can spur you to do deep cleaning, but that’s exactly what I want to do this weekend.
I use a cucumber scented all purpose cleaner from method and I love it so much, especially the smell!

Looks great! I think I need to make mine look that!
