Hudson and I started classes this past January. One of the classes has a snack time, which means Hudson gets to wash his hands before we eat. He is now obsessed with washing his hands at the sink and loves using our new Method hand soap. Yesterday I was staring at the pattern on the pretty bottle which led me to search for Orla Kiely patterns and I stumbled upon this super cheery bathroom in the home of Melanie from You Are My Fave that was featured on a sneak peek on Design Sponge.
I decided to round up a couple of items to help recreate a cheery child’s bathroom inspired by the beautiful colors in the Orla Kiely wallpaper.
Of course the wallpaper I was smitten with is no longer available online. Not sure why. It seems to be one of their classic patterns and I hope it will be available again soon.
– I saw this cute clothing rack at Ikea this week and I thought it would be perfect for holding towels. Hudson is all about doing things on his own now so I know he would approve of being able to yank on his own towel.
-I love bathrooms with a chandelier instead of just standard wall vanity light. So in my pretend bathroom I would have this stunner from Stray Dog Designs. It comes in a handful of colors, but in order to ground things and not get too wacky I decided to go with the grey option.
-No one wants dirty clothes all over the floor so this cheerful hamper is a welcomed addition to any bathroom.
-Normally I always stick with crisp white towels, but for a child’s bathroom I think color is the way to go. Kate Spade always has a great selection of colorful towels. I would add these lattice towels into the room.
-Orla’s patterns always look great with mid century finds that are typically in a warm shade of wood. I love a unique shaped mirror for bathrooms instead of the standard mirror with cabinet. Interesting shape plus warm wood tone equals this mirror.
-For a child’s bathroom I would go with a pedestal sink this way there are no cabinets to open and no mess to pick up every single day! Can you tell we have a cabinet base? Hudson loves pulling everything out. He does it in seconds! Don’t forget to add your favorite hand soap. Also love this option.
-Love a good stripe and this striped curtain from Garnet Hill doesn’t disappoint. For $38 I would actually get two of them and make the shower area a focal point and flank it with a curtain on each side. If you do this don’t forget two shower liners as well.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
I love the navy sconces (and your blog)!
