When I first use to step out the door with Hudson for any sort of errand I had a diaper bag filled to the brim with everything I thought I could possible use. Very rarely did I actually use everything in there and the older and heavier Hudson has gotten the less and less items I actually take out with me.
The diaper bag got put away months ago and in it’s place I have a smaller tote bag that we have been using lately. A smaller bag means limited items and I now think I’ve perfected all of the must haves needed for an outing with toddlers.
Tip 1: Diapers & Wipes will continue to be a must have until I get this little man fully potty trained. Due to the summer weather and extended day trips I now make sure to pick a swim diaper and a nighttime diaper. Instead of carrying a big package of wipes I have started using the on the go wipes dispenser by oxo tots. It’s slim, has a good lid and a strap so if I run out of space in my tote I can just attach to the stroller handle.
Tip 2: Meal Time has now become much easier since Hudson can ate whatever we are eating. No more carrying formula and pureed meals. Hudson now even orders his own meal off of the kids menu instead of eating off our plates. While most restaurants have kids menus they don’t have kid sized utensils so a good thing I like to carry with me is an on the go feeding spoon from oxo. I love that itcomes in it’s own case so it’s not going to get dirty from my bag and when it’s been used it’s not going to get the bag dirty. Perfect pairing.

Tip 3: I started to forgo a crazy amount of spare outfits in my bag when Hudson actually started leaving on his bib. Typically we were going through about 2 outfits in a day due to Hudson’s crazy eating habits. Food always ends up on him from head to toe and during the summer months he has been obsessed with watermelon, which means watermelon juice is always soaking up his shirts. My new favorite bibis the roll-up bib from oxo. It’s a great wipeable material so it can easily be rinsed with water and dries quickly. Plus itrolls up so it gets really small and fits easily in my bag.

Tip 4: Summertime means lots of trips out east to the forks of the island for farmers markets, wine tastings, the beach, etc. It also means we get to be invited to friends summer homes, which means overnight trips. Hudson still gets a morning and bedtime bottle, which needs to be made in actual bottle not sippy cup, because Hudson is refusing to switch to a sippy cup. This means we still get to clean bottles, which is not fun, but it’s really helpful to have the on the go drying rack from oxo, because it’s compact enough to go in my tote and it comes with a brush!

Tip 5: Other than the essentials from above the only extras I carry are a box or two of yogurt covered raisins in case I need something in a hurry for him, a sippy cup with water and a book or two to distract him during meal times. It’s really quite simple now to jet out the door and since my tote is so much smaller and lighter than the diaper bag I can actually bring my own handbag out again.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
