A couple of weeks ago I was wondering around The Container Store and I stumbled upon this dry cleaning pad. I had never heard of it before even though the packaging looked super dated. It was only $4.99 so, I decided to pick one up and give it a go.
I have a white slipcovered sofa in my living that has gotten it’s fair amount of wear and tear. I know many people swear by slipcovers and simply toss them in the washer and bleach them, but that’s not the case for me. First off my slipcover is linen and according to the instructions it’s dry clean only. Secondly it’s an insane workout to remove all of the covers and then place them back on. It’s such a hassle that I have only sent them to the dry cleaners once! I had my fingers crossed that this pad would work wonders.
Overall my sofa isn’t dirty per say, but with two kids and a dog that loves to rub up against furniture when he walks by there it wasn’t a crisp white anymore.
Here is a particularly bad spot:
The pad is pretty simple to use. First step is twist the pad to activate the ingredients inside.
Then you rub, rub, and rub over the stain:
Then you simply vacuum over the area:
Here is the after:
Pretty good.
PROS: It’s relatively inexpensive and it’s easy to do. It makes a bit of a mess, but it’s super simple to vacuum it up.
CONS: It doesn’t work on everything. I tried to remove pen marks and it didn’t work for me, but I read on amazon reviews that it works for others. It also didn’t remove a water stain, but I didn’t really expect it to. With colored stains I found that it lightened it much better then anything else I had used, but didn’t get rid of it completely.
Will I buy it again? I think it’s a good thing to have in your house. I did my sofa from top to bottom and it really helped get rid of a layer of soot/wear and tear/kids/dogs/etc.
For the best price pick them up at The Container Store. For some reason it’s $8.99 on Amazon.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Wow! That’s a pretty great result. I’d be curious to see how it did with colored or more delicate fabric.
