A couple of months ago our washer bit the dust. Now, I love buying things for my house, but buying a washer wasn’t exactly on the top of my list for the next house purchase. A new accent chair for the living room? Yes, please! I already have fabric swatches and the exact chair frame waiting for me to pull the trigger. An appliance to go in my unfinished laundry room? No, thank you!
But what’s a girl to do? With a family of 4 I needed to purchase a new one. I decided if we needed a new one I might as well get a pretty one. Front loaders are every laundry rooms dream and after looking at reviews I decided to pick up an LG High Efficiency Front loading washer with a bigger drum size! It’s been a dream. I mean the dream is to have someone else tackle my laundry, but for a realistic dream this washer has been stepping up my laundry game! Now it’s time to step it up yet again, because LG is sending me an LG SideKick™ to go along with it!
Have you heard of the LG SideKick™? It’s a small washer that goes underneath my main washer. So basically where you would put a pedestal to raise your washer I will now have a mini washer to run solo or at the same time as a large load! Guys, I’m super excited!!!! With little kids there is always a clothing accident throughout the day with popsicle drippings or ketchup. Now that it’s summer and we have frequent visits to the pools. I’m also lucky enough to wash bathing suits very frequently! With LG SideKick™ I can now just run a mini load and not have to use the large machine with very little clothes or have to do a massive load sooner than I want just to get a clean bathing suit. I can also use to run my undergarments or hand wash cycle items, because that’s normally small loads. So it can run while my normal big wash runs! Win, win. I’m lucky enough to have a newer washer since ours bite the dust a couple of months ago, but LG SideKick™ is compatible with LG front loaders as far back as 2009 so it can be purchased as an add-on!
I’m anxiously counting the days until mine arrives! What I’m not excited about is my laundry room. We have wanted to re-do for over a year now, but with the kids our free time is pretty non existent and therefore this project has never been started, but this new washing machine duo is going to need a stylish laundry room to go with it.
Here is the horrible before:
I told you it was bad. Floor is horrible, Walls are horrible, lighting…you guessed it…horrible. I have my work cut out for me. Plus it’s just a mess because I don’t have a ton of storage. Our dryer is out of the shot, but I’m hoping to move it to the left of the sink.
We are on a super tight budget! Here is the direction I’m leaning towards:
No. 1 Now if I were to have a favorite utility sink in the world this would be it. I love everything about it. It’s not super pricey, but like I said I’m on a tight budget so I’m just using it for inspiration for a paint job on our existing sink,
No. 2 We have horrible over head lighting in here, but I think it would be nice to have some additional lighting like this sconce. At that amazing price point I don’t feel guilty getting 2.
No. 3 The walls are in horrible shape. There are pieces crumbling off everywhere. This weekend we are tackling smoothing out the walls and prepping them for paint. I’m leaning towards using Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore. I want to paint all of the exposed pipes the same color in hopes that it all blends together.
No. 4 It would be nice to have some sort of industrial looking hamper in to help with all of the dirty clothes. Loving option. We shall see if we have enough space.
No. 5 I love a showstopper in a room and this laundry room deserves one. It’s not a big space, but this runner will totally work going down the middle of the room. Love all of the colors!
No. 6 I spent a while searching for tile and all of the options I wanted come in at around $500-$600 which is not in budget. I kept searching and found an okay option that would come in at around $150. Before I ordered the tile and did a little more searching and found an even cheaper option! For less than $50 I’m going to use these vinyl tiles! They arrive on Sunday!
No. 7 Cute hooks make everything better, right? I picked some of these up months ago (Let’s hope I remember where I stored them!). I think they will be great to hang some of my unmentionables to dry.
No. 8 My laundry room houses some craft supplies as well. I’m hoping to use some of these storage boxes with labels into the space in the hopes to get more organized!
Are you in the need for a new washer? Right now you can get both a front load washer and LG SideKick™ for only $999 (offer ends July 13th). An amazing duo for an amazing price point! Also there will be an opportunity to win a FREE LG SideKick™ on this blog in my laundry room reveal post!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
My Maytag washer/dryer are 30 years old this month. Zero fancy. We moved last year and for 2 months they were across the room from each other and 17′ feet apart. How the previous owner put up with it, zero clue.
Those 2 months? Awful. Felt like a perverse joke.
With much to do at our ca. 1900 farmhouse I never said a word to Beloved. After getting the laundry room done, he said a friend had told him, “You always want a woman to have a nice laundry room.” Sexist? Sure. I don’t care, bless that friend for butting in !
Glad you showed your laundry room. How you are doing laundry for 4 in that room is beyond imagination. And you can’t even leave the ironing board ‘up’ and ready for you. And, I’m only doing laundry for 2.
Cannot wait until you post your NEW laundry room. Until then you are Cinderella Before the Ball.
Hope it’s REAL SOON !

I actually really like your sink the way it is. I know the color isn’t right for what you picked, but FWIW.
have fun- sometimes I think that budget constraints force us to be creative and they end up pretty fun, especially when expectations are set correctly.
Ok, I’m so lame because I had to look up FWIW. Haha. I agree. I actually really like the green to, but the inside of it is a mess! So we shall see.
