Ok guys, I’m a couple of days late posting this. Working from home all of my days blend together, which isn’t great when I have a deadline! Luckily when it’s deadlines for other people I’m always on top of things, but when it comes to my own blog deadlines I tend to forget!

So, what did we think? I’m not going to lie I’m a huge fan of Below Deck on Bravo so, I was intrigued by the idea of reading a book that took place during a yacht vacation. I always love/hate to be scared. I’m always one to pick out one of those god awful thrillers from the redbox and watch it behind my hands while I freak out if I locked the front door or not.

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware is a thriller that reminded many reviewers of Agatha Christie’s writing style. It’s about a journalist named, Lo Blacklock that recently went thru a stressful experience of having her flat broken into while she was home. A couple days later and she is off on a luxury cruise with other press members to enjoy a trip aboard the Aurora. While she is still shaken from her break in this is the trip of lifetime and she is trying to enjoy it. She boards the ship and gets her cabin assignment and proceeds to get ready for dinner. It is then that she realizes her make up is missing and goes across from her cabin to cabin 10 to see if she can borrow mascara. A 20 something girl answers the door and isn’t too pleased to see Lo, but regardless she gives her a tube of mascara.

Lo finishes getting ready and attends the dinner where you realize that one of the other guests must have been a past boyfriend or fling. The only person not at dinner is the woman from cabin 10. Dinner comes and goes and all the guests return to their cabin. Later in the night Lo hears a splash and runs out to see blood on the balcony next to her and assumes that someone has fallen overboard. When she goes to check the other guests and there whereabouts she realizes that the woman in cabin 10 is missing. Here is where her panic sets in and she gets the crew to search all of the cabins and find the woman in cabin 10.

The only problem? There was no one ever in cabin 10. According to the crew cabin 10 was always empty. Since Lo is a fragile state due to her recent break in and she has been drinking quite a bit you are really left wondering if there was a woman in cabin 10.

Since Lo just went thru a traumatic experience and is drinking quite a bit at this point of the book a reader is really left to wonder if Lo really did see someone being thrown overboard or if she is having a breakdown of some sort. The cruise continues to sale as if all is fine but Lo continues to persist that there is a missing person and searches the entire boat and interviews all of the staff. In this time Lo starts getting warnings to stop what she is doing and now as a reader you start to wonder if perhaps she is right, but then who did it?

At this point in the book you also start reading newspaper articles about the cruise and bodies that have started to be found. So, is it Lo’s bodies that has been found or the woman in cabin 10?

There are many more twists and turns which I really did enjoy, but I was hoping to be more scared. I wanted to be terrified while reading the book and I really wasn’t. Perhaps it’s because I’ve watched way too many Lifetime movies, but it felt exactly like something that could be a plot to a Lifetime movie. Overall it was a fun and easy read, but I’m sorry to say it didn’t make me a huge fan of Ruth Ware’s work. Not sure I will be picking up anything book from her.
