I use to be one of those lucky people that could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound! It was amazing, but it didn’t last forever. I turned 25 and suddenly I had hips and then later on I had Hudson and needed to the lose baby weight and then I had Asher and I needed to lose that baby weight. Both times I lost the baby weight a couple of months after the delivery, but it has never been easy. With Asher I lost the weigh kept it off for over a year and then in the past year it has slowly crept back up! Totally terrifying for me.
I decided at the end of the summer that enough was enough and I needed to put away the ice cream (so sad) and get on board with making myself a priority. I started working on my eating, but I also wanted to add fitness to the mix. I wasn’t excited about joining a gym and luckily I didn’t have to.
Recently my town got a Life Time Athletic Club and the building looked so beautiful I just had to figure out a way to get in and check it out. I’m one of those people that hates even speaking to a stranger to order a pizza so going into a fancy athletic club and speaking with someone about it wasn’t exactly appealing to me, but I did it and I’m so happy I did.
Literally every single person I have dealt with at Life Time is super nice. No question is ever silly, they are your biggest cheerleader in your fitness goals and the answer is always yes. They literally do everything they can to make your experience the best it can be. It feels more like a country club and they pride themselves on not being a gym, but an athletic club that is full of a variety of experiences! I decided I wanted to join because I loved the facilities, the staff and the classes they offered, but the best part was the Kids Academy!
When I go in to take a class or work out on my own I get to bring my little guys with me and drop them off at Kids Academy. It’s literally like a birthday party for your kids when they arrive. This is the toddler area where Asher can hang out. There are lots of toys in the cubbies and there is always staff members inside to play with your little ones.
There are also these great gates everywhere so, that your child can’t leave on his/her own.
The play maze is Hudson’s favorite part!
Along with the toddler area, play maze and a media room full of coloring, puzzles and even ipads if you child likes they offer a bunch of classes your child can take while they are there. So throughout the kids academy there are different studios. They have a learning studio, art studio, language studio, movement studio and a tumbling studio.
All of the supplies are provided for you.
Massive tumbling room and classes like gymnastics, yoga and tumbling are all included with your membership!
Here is a peek into the media area where are a bunch of tables and chairs and kids can grab puzzles or ipads and play. I loved walking into this space and seeing a staff member cleaning every single toy! Impressive! I’m always one to attack everything with a baby wipe so, it was nice to see the care they take with all of their toys and equipment.
Another nice touch is that when your child goes in they get scanned in with your card and get a sticker with their name and age. So, if they need you, etc you will get called over the loud system to come back to the Kids Academy. They also have one family sign out at a time so that they can scan their stickers again and make sure the parents and kids match up before they unlock the gate and let you out.
I was in love after my tour. They even have a nursery area for all of the little ones starting at 3 months. It’s really the ideal place for a family.
I’m not going to lie a membership to Life Time is more of an investment than your $10-$20 a month gym memberships, but at Life Time you get so much more! So, instead of setting up the boys with outside gym and art classes I put that budget towards the Life Time membership because they could take so many classes there. Win, win. The boys get classes and so do I!
They also do a lot of fun events for members and the next one is coming up this Saturday!
If you live on Long Island then perhaps I will see you at their Spooktacular event in Syosset. On Saturday 10/22 from 1-3pm they will have a pumpkin patch, bounce house, obstacle courses, petting zoo, slides, DJ and MC plus more fun activities! You are welcome to come fully decked in costume! It’s $15 per person!
It was nice to treat myself to something I know will make a big difference in my life! Follow along with my getting fit journey! I’m already done 7 pounds! Ice cream here I come! Haha.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
