Jon had off from work last week and while we were happy to spend it at home we thought it would be nice to take a road trip somewhere fun for the kids. Jon and I both immediately thought of Vermont and since I had done a little research I knew Woodstock, VT would be the perfect place. It had been voted prettiest town in America and it was on numerous round up for the quintessential Christmas town. Sold and sold!
From L.I. it was a 4 hour and 30 min drive, which was totally doable with two little kids. Yes, they asked us a million times if we were in Vermont. Literally the first time they asked we had been in the car around 15 mins. We stopped once for a potty break, but that was it.
Guys, I fell in love with Vermont. I had been when I was little, but as an adult I had never gone. One of my favorite movies is Baby Boom with Diana Keaton and in it she leaves the corporate world once she becomes the guardian of a baby from a distant relative. She leaves Manhattan and moves to Vermont and starts making home made apple sauce baby food that gains momentum and becomes a baby food empire. Oh so good! Once I set foot in Vermont I was ready to do the same and of course become the next Gerbers.
Ok back to the trip! I’m a hotel snob. Everyone in my family knows this and I normally research like crazy before settling on a place. With this quick trip I didn’t have the time. I literally went onto expedia and search for Woodstock, VT and judged places by the photos only and picked 506 On the River Inn and I’m so happy I did. The room was super affordable and the inn was stunning. I loved every single detail and Jon practically had to drag me out of their kicking and screaming. I’m pretty sure the boys were doing both but for different reason. Let’s just say a lot of car time makes little boys that are full of energy a bit naughty.
I’m not going to lie I was dying to sneak that monogrammed vintage suitcase into my real suitcase. The inn was full of vintage treasures. The boys loved the John Deer wagons they had for your luggage.
How stunning is their check in area! I knew I had made the right decision to book right then and there.
Their main dining/lounging area for guests is drop dead gorgeous. Doesn’t it look like something out of a Nancy Meyers movie?
Look at this amazing kitchen! Now this isn’t the kitchen that the chef uses, but it’s an open kitchen where you can grab coffee, tea and hot cocoa during the day and for breakfast they have it set up with everything you could need to help yourself.
There is also a beautiful porch area you can use and look at the picturesque river that runs through the back of the hotel.
They also have a fireplace with comfy sofas where you can lounge.
On their second floor they have a massive library complete with an old fashioned bar, multiple seating areas, bookcases full of books, games and a pool table.
They also had a pool area that we knew the boys would enjoy.
Plus a bonus gym room that the boys died over. All the wanted to do was hang out in there. They had a basketball game, arcade game, air hockey table, toys galore like legos, and board games plus pin ball machines and sofa/tv set up.
Now it may seem like I never left the hotel because I loved it so much, but we did venture out. We walked all over Woodstock which is totally charming.
We also drove into Quechee and hit Quechee Gorge Village shopping area had a country store, Cabot cheese factory and Antique market.
We also stopped at the Quechee Gorge. Isn’t it amazing!
We went through a bunch of covered bridges, which looked so pretty with a dusting of snow.
I found a barn that I would happily move into. At first I thought this beauty was someone’s house, but then I found that actually house. This is in fact a barn and it’s stunning.
We checked out some animals at Billings Farm & Museum.
I found some adorable cows.
We also drove around and checked out all of the pretty houses trying to find a favorite. It was hard to pick one, because we loved all of them. Doesn’t everything look prettier with a dusting of snow.
The boys didn’t want to leave but Jon and I were wiped. After a late lunch at Bentley’s which I ran into simply because I saw their amazing holiday decor! Don’t worry the food was good too! We hit the road and headed back home.
It was a fun little getaway and we managed to jam a lot into it! I’m already looking forward to checking out Vermont in the spring!
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
