With the new year I have been a mad woman getting the house in order. I always try to keep everything in order because I tend to be a little OCD, but after having kids it can be hard. I have learned to deal with most of the house being in a somewhat state of mess, because we are living life not living in a photo shoot set up. My bedroom gets hit particularly hard with laundry baskets full of clean or dirty clothes. . The nightstands have an array of cups or bottles (Asher’s not ours) from the night before and little pieces of lego get sprinkled throughout the floor! Of course I always find those in the middle of the night with my feet!
In the morning though everything gets a fresh start! Making my bed really sets the tone for the rest of the day and it needs to be made on a daily basis! Every single toss pillow needs to be put on and then removed at night. Don’t ask Jon how he feels about this, because he will just tell you about that scene in Along Came Polly. Due to my love of bedding I always start of a new year with new bedding! I treat myself to a new set every year and for the past 3 years or so I start out Jan 1st with a Crane & Canopy duvet. They are my absolute favorite! So soft and pretty with every little detail thought of like ties to keep the comforter in place, and a zipper close instead of buttons! Plus when you add the luxe down alternative comforter I picked up last year, well it’s pretty much heaven. Seriously that comforter is like a cloud! I tell everyone to pick one up!
This year I was actually lucky enough to get a new set courtesy of Crane & Canopy and I actually picked out a set I already have, because I love the way it looks on my bed and more down time in between laundry! Win, win. I have the Hayes Nova in french blue and I love having a non-white duvet option. Before picking out this blue I only ever did crisp white, but going with a color is actually a nice change and it helps hide little spots that may occur due to little fingers. Plus it has accent piping in white, which really pops and adds to the crisp bed feeling I use to get with all white bedding.
I find that making my bed every morning helps me set a tone for the day. In just making the bed I feel like I already accomplished something off of my to-do list! What’s the best part of a to-do list? Making those slashes on the list items once you have accomplished them!
Plus once I see the bed nicely made I want to go around and straighten up the rest of the room!
Time to clean up the nightstand and bring everything downstairs!
Time to open up all of the bamboo blinds and remove bedding from the previous day that always ends up on that chair!
I also then pick up toys that were left on the floor! Ah! There is my amazing polka rug that I absolutely adore!
I sometimes even decide to put away that clean laundry that is hanging out in a laundry basket by the vintage console we painted green years ago!!!
Much better, right? Just one little thing like making the bed helps me do a couple other little things that equal out to a cleaner room. Yes, these photos are devoid of many more things that are typically there, but we wanted nice photos not cluttered ones. So, in real life there are probably magazines on my nightstand and Asher’s night time diapers and wipes, but you get the picture!
I wanted to know how some of my favorite bloggers started out their new year in the bedding dept and today you’ll be able to share a peek at the following bedrooms:

Jamie from Southern Revivals
Courtenay from Creekline House

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Looks amazing, Camilla! Love all the colorful pillows against that crisp blue duvet cover!
