My Favorite Budget Friendly Curtain Rod
I always find that when I’m decorating a space for a client or myself one of the biggest budget busters is dealing with windows. You need to consider the yardage for window treatment and take your fabric cost and then times it by how many yards you need, the labor to make the window treatments and then all of the hardware like the curtain rod and hooks. It all adds up quickly, but I always think it’s what makes the most of a difference in a home. It gives your room an additional layer that make it feel finished and homey. There are a lot of different curtain rods out on the market, but if you are looking at retailers like West Elm, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, etc they all tend to start at $60 and just go from there and that doesn’t include the clips or even finials sometimes! My favorite budget friendly curtain rod is from Ikea! What can’t they do! It’s typically my go to place for them and out of all of them the Portino.
Here are the reasons why I love it!
- It’s only $19.99 for a 84″ length solid wood curtain rod with finials and the hanging hardware!
- The hanging clips are only $6.99 for a set of 10!
- It’s solid wood so you get a nice visual weight to them and since you cut it down to size it’s not collapsable, which means you don’t have that ugly connecting area on the rod where the slightly smaller rod slides into the larger rod.
They just look so much more substantial looking then other rods out there and the price can’t be beat. If the white isn’t your cup of tea it’s easy to simple spraypaint it another shade or even use metallic spray paint for a metal look.
Love it! It’s seriously one of those classic pieces that Ikea makes and stands the test of time!

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.

Is there any way you could tell me how far the curtain rod is from the wall? I believe it’s called the projection? I can’t find the dimensions anywhere and I’m looking for curtain brackets where the rod/curtain is close to the wall. I just measured and it looks to be around 5″ off the wall so, I don’t think this would work for you.

I’m wondering if you could tell me the diameter of that rod? I have a bay window and have found adapters to connect rods in the corners, but not sure if these rods would fit in the adapters.
I’m not sure. Currently at home and they are up in my studio. The clip size is 1 7/8″ so I’m assuming the rods are a little bit smaller than that.

The rod is 84″ and then you can cut it down to whatever you like.
