My friend, Melissa has the same love for beautiful old homes full of character, vintage finds and a passion for amazing interior design. We love to tackle a room together and we have been making our way around her house designing rooms from scratch or zhushing up rooms that needed a fresh look. We recently tackled the main bathroom in her home that her two little girls use. Don’t get me room it was beautiful before hand with amazing tile on the floor and walls, perfect sconces and the most amazing sink! Then one day I stumbled upon the black and gold mermaid wallpaper by Hygge & West.
It’s it stunning? The illustrations/pattern are beautiful and it looks so chic in the black and gold colorway. It works for a kids bathroom, but it’s also sophisticated enough to grow with them.
Here was the bathroom before hand. It featured mainly white and black and had yellow accents.
Now check out the amazing after!
It came out amazing and while it’s a busy wallpaper it just works. There is no need for additional artwork and the mirror, window and tub area help break it up so, it doesn’t overwhelm.
I love the black framing around the mirror in the bathroom which helps it look original to the bathroom and picks up the black in the wallpaper.
Barely there pink accents was the perfect color to break up all of the neutrals. It doesn’t take away from anything just adds to it’s amazingness.
I love the way it turned out. This bathroom features so many of my favorite things. While the wall tile and floor tile are new they have a vintage feel to them. The amazing sink is one I have been dreaming of for years and add a little industrial vibe especially with the scones. The finishing touch of the wallpaper adds the dose of whimsy that I love. It’s a happy, well designed space that I would adore in my own home.
Isn’t it perfection! Wallpaper can really transform a space. It comes in the prettiest colorways like, coral, blue and shell pink along with the gold color way we used.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
The time has come to finally share our new kitchen reveal. For those of you that have been with us from the beginning, we bought a house right before the pandemic hit. It was a total gut job from top to bottom. We started our demo and then the world shut down. Enter the delays […]
Picking out paint colors for a new home can be overwhelming. I find that many times when I meet with a new client the entire house is simply just painted white or a light gray. Now, I think there is a time and place for those colors, but with paint, there is just so much […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
Love it, that wallpaper is amazing
Thanks, Marty!
