If you are one of my friends then you know that at one point or another I will probably decorate something in your home whether or not you like it. Haha. My sisters and parents have all gotten the memo and my friend, Melissa is always happy to be a guinea pig and design soul sister. We had a lot of fun re-doing spaces in your home most recently a mermaid filled zhushing of her daughters bathroom. While I was there taking pictures I played around in her living room and tackled 4 different pillow arrangements that you could work on her sofa and yours. Consider this sofa styling 101: 1 Sofa, 4 arrangements that each work beautifully in the space.
This is what we started with:
Arrangment 1: 3 different patterned pillows in the same size. I think this is actually the hardest to tackle because they pillows all need to go with the vibe of the room but not really match anything since there is no symmetry.
Black velvet with greek key trim pillow,Kelly Wearstler Bengal pillow and Pyne Hollyhock floral pillow. Look for less:floral pillow.
Arrangement 2: 4 different patterned pillows in mostly the same size (20″ and 18″ mixed together) Here we have symmetry with their being two pillows on each side and the colors speak to each other. So the blue and magenta on the left side also show up on the right side. Pattern wise I left the scale pretty similar.
Blue velvet pillow is a HomeGoods find, but this is a similar option, David Hicks La Fiorentina , Kelly Wearstler Bengal pillow and Alan Campbell Potalla
Arrangement 3: Now we have symmetry with the amount of pillows and we are using a matching pair of pillows. These are all 18″ , which I like for the scale of this sofa. For my personal style this is a favorite, because I’m all about symmetry. I tried to get a little funky and not put the matching pairs in the same exact position. Yes, I’m wild and crazy. Haha.

Arrangement 4: Husbands hate pillows. It’s literally the compliant I get from every client. They don’t see the point to them and it’s just a bunch of putting and removing for them. So, this pillow combo is for them! 3 pillows! Just 3! The symmetry gives the arrangement a little bit of a traditional vibe but the long lumbar gives it a little modern twist. Not as funky as arrangement 1, which is also just 3 pillows, but it’s still super chic.
David Hicks La Fiorentina flank the sofa and in the middle we have a light pink lumbar pillow. This size will vary depending on your sofa, but make sure it’s a nice size and not a tiny 12″ x 16″. This lumbar is around a 16″x 26″.
All different looks, which totally work in the space. You just need to figure out what works best for your home and lifestyle.
Want a peek at the rest of the room?
So chic, right? It’s full of vintage finds and works perfectly with her design aesthetic and home.
My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
