This past year I have started to take on more and more clients for a service called Decorator on Call for hourly design help. What’s decorator on call? Well it’s a service for one of two people. Person 1 loves design and enjoys decorating their home, but they want to talk with a professional and bounce off ideas. Do I agree with the lighting they picked out, what’s the ideal height for it, does everything else in the room make sense, etc. Person 2 typically already has their furniture and floor plan figured out, but they want help with the extras. So, accessorizing, pillows, artwork, styling. They have stuff in the space but it just isn’t finished and doesn’t feel cohesive or special enough. Many times people have rooms that look straight out of a catalog and while that is a great jumping off point for many people you want your room/home to feel like you not a catalog so, you need to add some details to really finish it off. Normally I’m with them 1-5 design hours so, it’s a short and sweet experience. Clients have found it really helpful, because many times they don’t know where to source certain items or how to get pillows or window treatments made. Yes, it’s extra money out of your budget, but it’s worth it, because you won’t be making costly mistakes and second guessing yourself.
I recently worked with someone on a master bedroom where they had all of the main pieces aka the furniture and a paint color, but it felt like a showroom to them and they wanted some character to finish it up! We discussed budget and some likes/dislikes and I put together a design plan to finish up the space and make it reflex their style.
No. 1 Custom Window treatments weren’t in the budget so, I went with the next best thing. Ready made curtains with a linen, tassel accent and back tab for installation. With back tab you get a pretty fold with your curtains just like you would with clips or a pinch pleat. Similar look but a fraction of the cost.
No. 2 These hand painted gingar jar lamps are little pieces of art. I thinking lighting is a place where it’s worth it to spend some money. They are like jewelry to a room and they make an impact.
No. 3 I’m loyal to Crane and Canopy. I have been using them for years and I get everyone hooked on them. Their bedding is chic and so soft! My favorite has to be their Linden border duvet. Loving it in this pretty shade of dove gray Plus they now have monogramming available, which means I will be personalizing all of my bedding!
No. 4 Now the prettiness to make it all come together. My jumping off point for this project with this amazing fabric. I love all of the pale blues, peeks of coral and the bold green! These pillows work perfectly on the bed.
No. 5 These tone on tone pillows are so pretty! Love the panel on them and mix of textures.
No. 6 Finish it off with a small tassel accent pillow. It brings all together and adds a little whimsy with the tassels.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
