I was at Trader Joe’s this week and saw the prettiest flowers and potted plants that would be amazing gifts for Mother’s day! Now, I can never leave good enough along so, I had to zhush them all a bit! Everything looks better when you pay attention to the details. Follow along for 3 easy Trader Joe’s gift ideas for Mother’s Day!
First up is flowers! I love making my own bouquets. When you are picking out your flowers I like to mix up the colors and the type of flowers.
For these bouquets I grabbed from left to right: Two filler flowers: one that was all green and then one with small flowers, then a larger bloom (Yellow Padre Mum) in a bright color, two colors of much smaller ranunculus and then classic roses in two coordinating colors.
Then I broke them up into three equal sets.
Then it’s time to arrange the flowers. I like to start with the biggest flower and then flank it with the next size flower, which in this case is the roses, then I mix in the flower filler, then the smaller flowers aka the ranunculus and the final step in the greenery.
I like to make sure to place the flowers on an angle when I’m bunching them up. Then I wrap the stems with a rubber band and cut them to size. Now, if you were to take them out of the rubber band and lay them out then the stems would each be different sizes. Leave them in this form when you remove the rubber band and place in vase and they will fall perfectly and fill the vase opening nicely.
Designer tip: Make sure to remove any leaves that will be in the water. Your flowers will last longer this way.
Here they are all ready to go! Now you can simply just put them in a vase, but if you are gifting them for Mother’s day I recommend wrapping them up!
I love using pretty wrapping paper from Paper Source to dress up my bouquets. Just a simple wrap and fold at the bottom and you are almost finished!
Add a ribbon and make a bow and now you are ready!
Next up is a mini herb garden! They had the cutest section filled with potted herbs for only $1.99!!! I picked up one of each and thought they would look so cute on someone’s window still or in their garden.
All you are going to need is the potted herbs, patterned paper cocktail napkins, string, blank tags, zip lock sandwich bags and a marker.
The pots have holes on the bottom to drain water and it can get rather wet. I placed each in a zip lock bag to prevent water leakage on the paper napkin.
Open up your cocktail napkin and place your pot in the center. Then simply lift the sides and fold the sides like you were wrapping a gift.
Then just tie with some string.
Then mark up your tag with the name of the herb and tie it on.
Isn’t it cute!!!! So easy and really budget friendly!
Last up is the easiest gift! I love hydrangeas. I love how big and full they are! You get a lot of bang for your buck with them. This potted plant was only $9.99!!! I have some planted in our front yard that started out this size and now it’s massive and when it blooms every year I’m in heaven clipping them for arrangements! So, it will be a gift that keeps on giving!
I removed the plastic covering and then used gold letter stickers to spell out MOM. Simple but totally chic presentation.

My living room is one of the rooms that evolved drastically from when we first moved one. Originally I painted the walls chocolate brown and did accents of white, blue and orange. That lasted maybe 2 years.
Our dining room sat empty for months. Okay maybe it was empty for just a handful of weeks and then we couldn’t take it anymore and put in a folding table and plastic outdoor chairs, but in my mind that was still empty.
On the main floor of our house we have a Florida room. Being that it’s a Florida room it is a considered a 3 season room, because there is no heat in the room. The previous owners used it as an indoor patio with outdoor furniture and it looked like this when we moved in.
In our new home, the basement was completely unfinished. It was literally one of those dark spaces that you see in horror movies and are terrified of getting locked into. However, with the square footage in this house, I knew I needed to make the basement another workable and liveable floor of the house instead […]
What to look for when it comes to picking out kitchen appliances: Leave room in your budget for appliances. When it comes to kitchen renovations everyone knows that the cabinetry and the labor of demoing and installing cabinetry is going to eat a lot of your budget. However, the second most expensive part of a […]
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking that designing a kitchen is an overwhelming undertaking. I’m an interior designer and even I find it stressful to iron out all of those details. So, when it comes time to design a kitchen I always like to partner with a kitchen designer to make sure I’m remembering […]
